Anyone started with the NDIS?

Anyone started with the NDIS?

Tells my story from initial application (Feb '17) to acceptance by NDIS (July '18) and the process of putting things in place and progress, improvements, managing and difficulties since then. Now Jan '21.

Original post : I've recently moved and will need to get into the NDIS in my new location. Wondering if anyone in the forums has successfully done this? Any advice would be welcome. Feeling swamped by their website.

EDIT : I was finally accepted to the NDIS and am now 3/4 through my 2nd plan. With only a small reduction from the first year. And this plan is for 2 years so I don't have to jump through all the hoops with a review this time next year. To all others on this path I say ........

IT'S REALLY WORTH PERSEVERING!!!

Hoping this thread helps all who come here.

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

Hi everyone @Twinklelight @Queenie @CheerBear @Bunniekins and @Mazarita

The meeting went really well. The prep I did for it was exactly what was needed and the disability advocate was really on the ball. She helped clarify a few things that I hadn't made notes about (although I was aware of them). And bro and sil totally agreed with my answers to her questions. There's only one job I have to do before the actual planning meeting with NDIS LAC next week. (Local Area Co-ordinator). That's to make a table prioritising my goals and connecting them to the required supports. Bro and sil will collaborate on this. I feel so supported and a lot more confident now.

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

@Twinklelight I'm glad to hear you have an advocate. They helped me heaps with preparing for an AAT hearing (which didn't end up happening as NDIS conceded and accepted me) including getting a legal aid lawyer for me that was funded by them. They are staying on board until I have a plan from NDIS that works for me.

They all said I was really well prepared. And reminded me that this should be the exciting part of the journey!

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

Hello @eth. I am having an in person planning meeting on the 18th July with the LAC. I have completed the pre-planning booklet outlining goals and objectives and have identified barriers and ways the NDIS can assist me. I'm not looking for a huge package, just some increased support with a worker, a couple of extra psychologist sessions and access to regular, pre-planned respite. I have both a support worker and a disability advocate coming with me. We shall see how I go. I'm still not holding my breath!

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

Feeling unsettled and anxious - the meeting with the NDIS LAC person is tomorrow morning. Just hoping the list of goals, supports needed and hours of same required is finished today. Sil is helping with it but she also has a busy day. So all I can do for now is pass the hours today without spinning out about it. My funding package for a year hangs on the outcome of the meeting.

@Queenie @Twinklelight @CheerBear @Mazarita @Bunniekins and anyone else who sees this.

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

I can very much understand how you'd be feeling unsettled and anxious @eth. You do so well at planning and preparing for these kinds of important meetings, which I hope (and believe) will really help you tomorrow.

I struggle a lot with distracting myself and trying to be calm-ish just before a 'big thing'. Have you got anything in mind to help you pass the time this afternoon?

Re: Anyone started with the NDIS?

Thanks @CheerBear. No plans today - no motivation, but on edge. Tempted to take a prn to relax and slow my mind. If there was ever a time for it .........
