Am Not Coping

Am Not Coping

I am really not coping at the moment but this is entirely on ME!

This is a message for a few people on here @utopia @Former-Member @Faith-and-Hope @Former-Member

that I asked could be passed on but it seems that only part of it has been and I understand from the responses that have made it through my emails that I have caused untold distress for some people. I was not going to return because of what I felt I put people through but I especially wanted @utopia and @Former-Member to know that they were not wrong at the time and I was going through a real crisis period. You both held me together for longer than I could myself until the point where my own self-destructive thoughts overwhelmed me.

The entire message that I sent to SANE is below:

I have just viewed the multitude of emails and messages sent from forum members and members of the SANE team – as well as the text and voice message left on my phone.

I have not been able to communicate with anyone since the other night as I have been recovering from what ended up being an unsuccessful attempt to end the pain.

At the time I was in a very distressed state and I did want to stop the pain and all I seemed to achieve is to cause others pain and worry and that is the last thing I wanted to do – I just wanted to end mine and say goodbye to everyone beforehand so my future absence was explained. I should have realised that the message I posted would have concerned some people but I really was not in any state to think about the repercussions for others.

I am so sorry I caused so much distress to others – that is something I will have to hopefully try and live with.

I don’t believe after the concern and anxiety I caused to so many that I will ever be able to return to the forum.

Can someone from the SANE team please explain all this to all those involved and pass on my gratitude for their compassion, concerns and kind words throughout the time I have been part of the ‘forum family’.

Thank you and sorry again for the difficult position I put everyone in.

Zoe7

I do not want any responses from any of you. I just wanted to let you know exactly what has happened and let you know how truly sorry I am for hurting people I have come to think of as friends and family, and who I really care about.

Your support, advice and compassion are what make you all the wonderful people you are.

@utopia and @Former-Member I am so sorry that the trust you placed in me has now been broken because of my actions. I also felt that we had a stronger connection, especially over the last week, and you both helped me in ways I cannot even describe or explain. I was not pulling away from you two - just wanted to pull away from myself. I couldn't cope with my own feelings and no-one or nothing was actually going to be able to stop me at the time. It's now just another failure to add to my list of failures. I really don't know what else to say to you both but to reiterate my heartfelt 'sorry'.

Re: Am Not Coping

I'm a bit late to the convo - but I second what @utopia has said - the Forums isn't a place where a tally is kept.
We're all here for each other when we need it.
Hope you're doing okay tonight @Zoe7

Re: Am Not Coping

@NikNik I'm ok for now - it's been a really big couple of days and I'm tired, a bit overwhelmed and not really feeling very good within myself. The conversation Tuesday night was both good and bad for me. It felt really good to be able to use my 'brain' and to be able to enter into a conversation on a topic that required focus to make a worthwhile contribution. The down side was that after I was still awake for several hours and kept thinking about how much I missed work - both working with the kids and the mental stimulation it gave me.

Yesterday there was just too much in one day that exhausted me both mentally and physically. My parents called in and not only was I not expecting them but I had to 'pretend' that everything was ok so I didn't have the added pressure from them (especially my Mum) of 100 questions and then her answering her own questions with what 'she' thinks I should be doing. While they were here I had a message that one of my ex-students was in hospital. As much as I hate hospitals I went in to see her and that alone would have been enough to cause a fare degree of stress and anxiety. She is ok and was released while I was there so that is a positive. Then I had to fill in all my paperwork for the insurance company at my GP's and that took nearly 2 hours. The paperwork alone was enough but having to go through everything over the last few months and put it into writing was exceptionally tough.

I was feeling quite anxious and low when I got home and a few little things all happened one after the other - nothing that would usually get to me that much but considering the long day I had already had, I just couldn't cope with it all. Then it became really winding and that is a real trigger for me. So the tough day, several little triggers, one big one and the usual fears when it gets dark sent me into a downward spiral that I couldn't pull myself out of. I cried myself to sleep and that has certainly affected how I felt when I woke up. I was still feeling overwhelmed and down this morning so I just tried to sleep as much as I could. This also sent me to a place where I was very down on myself and feeling like I was letting people down because I don't seem to be able to pull myself out of this position and I feel like I should be able to. I know in my head that I am doing what I can - and maybe sometimes a little bit more - but my self-esteem is so low that I don't see or feel it. I also feel like I am continually talking about the same 'stuff' and people are just going to get sick of it and I will be on my own again to deal with it. I have been on my own and so independent for so long - and never needed support as much as I have done over the last couple of months - and I find it really hard to ask for help and understand that people are actually there to provide that help. I also don't want to feel that vulnerable and to say that I am not coping and I need support - that vulnerability really scares me - too much history and too many triggers. So at times it just feels like I am stuck between my fears and accepting support. Hope that makes sense to you because sometimes it doesn't to me.

Re: Am Not Coping

Wow @Zoe7 - that's a lot going on. I'm sorry to hear that's hit you all at once.

What you said makes sense - in particular how you describe feeling stuck between your fears and accepting support.

I'm glad to hear your ex-student is okay. You're very brave and generous for going to visit when you knew potentially it would be triggering.
I hope you have some time to yourself over the next few days, and things settle down.

Thinking of you!

Re: Am Not Coping

@Zoe7. I totally get where you are coming from. We are not taught to ask for help. It's drummed into us from a young age to be independent. But independence doesn't mean doing it all on your own.
Vulnerability. You and I have talked about this before - especially with regards to letting a friend into our life and into our heart. I don't regret letting my friend in. Think selfishly - it helped me to grow. It's part of my journey. So it's part of my healing. It is a part of who I am. I don't want to go back and live a life where I was scared to show who I truly am. Afraid of what others will say. Afraid of what others will think. I like me.
Mothers!!! You've got me on a roll now. Lol. My mum knows pretty much everything. She has needed to know a lot of it - because I have needed her to help raise my son. Not just financially - but sleep overs where he can have a laugh. Especially when I couldn't get out of bed. He stayed with her for longer than my 4 week hospital stay. And like I imagine your mum is wanting to do - my mum tries to fix everything. She has a solution to every crisis. She doesn't understand that it is okay for me to just feel sad or lonely. Probably because she remembers how bad I was for a long time. Mothers want to help. We sometimes want to hide. Some honesty is necessary and good for both of you. But that is something you need to work out - maybe with your psycholigist. What you are and aren't willing to share.
This forum is a great place for members to learn to open up, reveal bits of themselves, discuss their traumas or be vulnerable. As with anything - gently does it should be the motto. One step at a time.
Work went well today. My boss queried me regarding my allergies and chemical sensitivities. He was worried if I got bad at work - what should he do. I said I'm rarely sick. And yesterday is almost at the top of my skin reaction - so I can deal with that myself. If it affects my nervous system - then my mum gets called and picks me up - because I can't drive. But that hasn't happened in over 6years. Poor bugger. He was ggetting freaked out. Lol
I know you are going to cringe - but I'm hoping Married at First Sight is on tonight. Because it wasn't yesterday and I missed Tuesdays episode - as I was at meditation.

Re: Am Not Coping

Firstly @utopia Married at First Sight isn't on again until Monday - but if you need an update I had the re-run on yesterday afternoon and pretty much caught up on what is happening!

I think I have been really struggling the last few days with missing my friend and how devastating it actually was to be so happy having someone in my life like her and then being so alone again. I just want it to be how it was and enjoy that feeling of knowing everyday that there is someone there who I can talk to and how I care about being in my life. I know this isn't going to happen and I just feel very empty because of it. I don't regret the friendship we had in any way - I still have the same feelings towards her and I think I always will - but I also can't deal with the hurt of it ending so quickly - maybe that is just where I'm at with other things at the moment but it still hurts a lot.

As for my Mum - I can't talk to her about anything. I blame her for so much and to in order to talk to her I would have to bring up so much that she doesn't know and I don't want her to know - even the thought of that is too much. I have been so independent since I was a child - out of necessity not choice, and that has continued for all of my life. It's not just because I had to but also because I needed to to protect myself. I don't necessarily want to keep things to myself now because of others may think - more that there would be so many people hurt and that is something I can't be responsible for. The actual pain it would all cause others is more than I could deal with. The fallout would not just affect my family but a lot of other people - and I can't be responsible for that.

Re: Am Not Coping

Hi all,

@Zoe7 I'm sorry to hear you have had such a tough day. I hope you can sleep ok tonight and that tomorrow is a brighter day for you.

I saw my GP this morning. She had a student doctor in with her and she asked me if I wanted him to stay or not. Even though it made for a different dynamic, I figured it was a good opportunity to educate an up-and-coming doctor about the importance of mental health stuff I think it is true what was said on Tuesday night during Topic Tuesday - the generation coming through DO view mental health stuff differently. Every time I see my GP it amuses me that she is so very young, such a brand new GP, clearly feels unsure of herself at times about whether she is saying the "right" thing...and yet she is the best GP I've ever had. Gee...I wonder what things will look like in the mental health system twenty years from now. I so badly hope they are vastly improved to where they are now.

Night all

Re: Am Not Coping

@Zoe7. Would it be your fault or your responsibility if your families or others did find out? I'm not talking about you telling. Just if they were to find out.
Why does it need to be your responsibility to keep it all a secret? Why can't they know about it & then they can deal with it?
I don't want to upset you tonight. But I just wonder why YOU have to suffee further - by being responsible for keeping it all a secret.
Maybe something to think about witg your psychologist next week or two.
Don't go there now - if it's too hard.
Bugger. You are right. MaFS isn't back on til Monday. I thought it was meant to run from Sunday to Wednesday. Bugger. I'll have to watch the reruns on the weekend.
Although I'm off to an expo on Saturday. Can't wait. I've missed the last 2 or 3 years due to having no money. So I better check my bank account & make sure I can go.
My son hurt his thump at sport today. 4th period. Didn't say anything til the end of school. Then figured because it was hurting so much he wouldn't go to band. Wise decision. Hard to play a saxophone with a damaged thumb. He didn't call me. He called my mum. She took him to the gp. She'll take him for an xray tomorrow morning. Hopefully just soft tissue damage and not broken. Luckily it's his left thumb and he's right handed. So he can still go to school. But just might get a week off saxophone practice

You okay @Zoe7?

Re: Am Not Coping

@utopia I hope your son's thumb isn't broken

Wht is the expo you are going to? Anything interesting - I suppose it is if you are going lol

If you miss MaFS on Saturday also I'll fill you in before Monday night - very interesting - can't believe I've got hooked on such dribble myself!!!!

Would it be my fault or my responsibility if family or others found out - NO but it would not take away my pain - it would just add to it!

Am I ok? - yes
