Something’s not right

How do I escape this hell?

How do I escape this hell?

This is my first time using something like this so I’m hoping not to trigger anyone along the way.

I have Borderline Personality Disorder presenting as Anxiety and panic with some OcD and Hyper vigilance thrown in.

im in a very disregulated place right now n I feel completely completely alone.

after a long period of blessful wellness my entire life has imploded. At the start of the year I made the epic mistake of believing I could change anything in my unsafe work place, after months of complaining to management about the condition of our stock room and getting no response I went to the regional manager. There is a reason people don’t speak up. Regional managers responded with making me clean it up. All of it . By myself. Being yelled at on a daily basis, belittled, told I am worthless and nothing. For 3 months I put up with this nonsense, I’d come home in tears only to have my husband who also works for the company take the management side. Nothing given to me or how this was affecting me.

result- for much of this year I’ve been on work cover dealing with this alone. The therapist I was seeing through WC was very little help- handing me work sheets rather then letting me talk and ignoring my telling her I’ve a previous diagnosis and attempting to box me in to a diagnosis of ADHD.

the ONLY reason I persuaded work cover compensation was to gain some additional support but this was a mistake, I felt invisible like she was trying to keep me disregulated and in her books and ended up going back to my Medicare therapist who I’ve been seeing for years anyway.

so that was pointless.

obviously all this has had a huge impact at home especially when the initial response I got from my husband was less then supportive. “To be fair the stockroom was never meant for those sales” you! I am your wife!

I almost reached a point where I honestly thought about breaking up because to be honest the last 18 years have been a roller coaster when I’m at my worst is when I need him the most and he has never been available in that way. The way I need him to be. Yelling at me while I am sobbing and disregulated, leaving me by myself when I’m experiencing suicidal thoughts and ideation. I know I’m hard to be around but I just need a hug, I just want to be held and told that it’s gonna be okay.

my parents are emotionally immature, divorced and likely to make things about themselves, in fact in recent years I’ve had to make the difficult decision to completely cut ties with my family because I need to protect myself from harm.

so about two Months ago we had this huge blow up in which he said he was done and that these episodes need to just stop, I started thinking I should just walk away.
Then My husband has lost both his grandmother and his mother in a time frame of 3 weeks. So of course I couldn’t leave Because as per usual I always always put everyone else first.

This has been a difficult time.

He has not been coping with it at all well, and in response to this he booked himself flights to Malaysia with out consulting me on it first.

We had a huge blow, it really hurt my feelings that he didn’t even talk to me first. but inspite of this last week he left me alone and had a nice time in Malaysia… by himself… without me. I spent the week staying with his grandfather while he was in Malaysia, this is not normal.

This is not the first time he has skipped of overseas without me. I get no say in any of it. Doesn’t care that I’m terrified of being alone. Doesn’t care that this is a boundary violation for me. That I am not okay with him doing this.

So come to today, this afternoon we had a couple therapy appointment and the psych was really good but I’m still feeling really quite alone and not coping. I’m feeling invisible.
this evening I tried to raise the travel thing but given the state I am in he flat out refused to discuss it.

I could really use a friend at the moment.

Re: How do I escape this hell?

@lostNclueless you have every reason to be upset. You must be in shock at being treated this way. It isn’t right or fair

I can see that you identified a pattern in your life.

Your parents, partner and workplace have the same personality.

I can see in your post that you are angry with yourself “Because as per usual I always, always put everyone else first.”

In your heart and mind, you know what you need to do.

Re: How do I escape this hell?

Hi @lostNclueless

It sounds like this year has been one big challenge for you. It's beyond disappointing to hear the way your workplace responded to what sounded like very reasonable requests for your workplace to be safer. And then to have your husband not be able to support you in this, it must have taken a lot of strength to get through that period.

It sounds as though there might be a little bit of a pattern where your husband is unable or unwilling to consider your emotions, with him leaving you to go overseas on multiple occasions. This most recent one sounds like it would have been especially challenging for you as you had to comfort his grieving grandfather.

It makes sense that you've been feeling so alone in this, but I'm so glad that you've found this space and have been able to share here. I know it's not an easy thing to do, but hopefully even just getting the words out offered some small relief. We're here with you

Re: How do I escape this hell?

Hi @lostNclueless, welcome to the forum. It really does sound like a very difficult time for you that has been made even more difficult by those who you should be able to rely on. I can understand what you mean about family being more unhelpful to be around than helpful. It's hard but sometimes we just need to remove anything we can from our lives that is making us feel even worse. There's only so much we can take on.

Your husband definitely shows a very strong pattern of not considering your feelings at all and only worrying about how anything affects him, without any consideration of your feelings. If I just left on a trip like that, I doubt my partner would let me back in the house when I got back.

I hope the couples therapy works for you both, but he really does have a lot to learn, but I hope he is even a fraction as committed as you are. I think you just need to focus on what is best for you and putting yourself first. I know it sounds far easier than it is, but it's so important if we are to find any happiness. Maybe setting some boundaries with your husband... even small expectations you required from him to have you continue to work on improving the relationship. You deserve far more than some small expectations, but it may be a way to start and gauge just how committed he is.

I really think the talking about the travel thing should be a non-negotiable! If he won't talk about just taking off on you like that, just like yelling and leaving you alone when you're really upset or distressed, then it's hard to see any real changes happening. But maybe the counseling will get him to talk about these things and you can get him to understand more about how you're feeling and how he can be more supportive for you. You definitely deserve a lot more of that! A lot more!!

You definitely don't need to feel alone here, there's a great group of understanding and supportive people and we'll do what we can to listen and support you. I still struggle with feeling alone and invisible, as I have for most of my life. But I have tried really hard to work on that this year... finally... and I am starting to feel in a much better place. And that all started with deciding to put myself first, expect a reasonable amount of support and respect from anyone around me, and most importantly to care for myself and my own happiness, rather than only thinking of other peoples.

Be kind to yourself lostNclueless, and take good care of yourself. We're always here if you find it helpful.
