Something’s not right

Work crap

Work crap

Plain and simple. Title says it all.

Some people at work are acting like kids

Over it

Spoke to my partner about it so that helped a lot. We help each other a lot. The problems remain with the work though right?

Anyone got tips or tricks for managing it?

My biggest fear is losing patience with it. Coz I have let it sit for a while. But my manager/colleague noticed it the other day and said something to me about it. So that's a sign.

Just over always thinking about it. It catches me on days off.

Re: Work crap

Hi @MDT. You're not my partner are you? 😁 She has the exact same issues at work and gets so frustrated with some of the things people do and say at her office. She does take a lot of pride in the work she does and it really gets to her when other people seem to have such lower standards and really don't seem to want to do what they're paid to do. The petty and childish behaviour doesn't help either. Some days she rings me to vent or comes home so fed up.

So I always try to listen and reassure her that none of it is her fault and it just reflects on them and not her. But it just frustrates her so much working with some people who don't want to do what they're supposed (and paid) to do. So unless she is just telling me what she thinks I want to hear, It does at least help reduce the frustration to tell me about it and be reassured that is sounds just as childish to another person. So its great that you also have a partner who is supportive and you can talk to.

When she comes home after a day like this and we talk about it. I'll wait a little bit and then try to suggest doing something I know she enjoys. Just so at least she has something to relax with that night and have fun with. Some maybe that may help for you as well, just go do something to enjoyable to relax when you get home from work, even if it's just to go out for a nice meal, or watch a good movie with a snack.

Her only other solution is to eventually look for a new job, but obviously that's not something you can keep doing. My own way, back when I working was just to tell myself that I was more than happy with the standard of work I was doing and that if other people were going to behave in ways that I found 'unproductive' then I was just going to focus on how poorly that made them look, not just to me but others as well. And try not to get dragged down towards their level, so I could always hold my head high knowing I was being for more professional than them. Control what I could control I guess. I couldn't control what people did (If I could, they wouldn't have worked there) but I could control how I reacted.

I guess, without naming names, you could talk to a manager and/or HR about some behavious that are making work difficult due to ...x... reasons.

But I do hear you. I've always said I never minded going to work... it was just some of the people there that made it hard!

Re: Work crap

It might be helpful to divulge what you’re “over” so we can try and relate or problem solve. I too am very much over some work issues happening for me, so it’s a safe space.

Re: Work crap

As some one currently on work cover with a psychological injury claim I find this oh so relatable.

I don’t think there is any easy answer here.

nit knowing the full situation either.

You have a few options,

access this situation- is this a toxic work environment or just work place dynamics? Is this affecting your wellbeing and life balance outside of work?
if so get out! I wish I had because trust me almost a year in, work cover is sooo not worth the fight on principle!

are the issues something that can be resolved? Have you tried talking to the parties involved? To your manager? To the manager above them?
or

does your workplace have a union? Have you tried talking to them?

exit plan- if you were to leave what would you look at doing instead? Set a (loose) time frame and journal out what this might look like.

May the end of the day Horrible bosses are not worth it!

Re: Work crap

Hi all

@lostNclueless @Kellraki84 @MJG017

Thank you for your replies

Specifically what am I talking about?

- comments about my attractiveness(you can't be so handsome, looking too sexy today)
- comments about my clothing (nice glasses, nice, nice shirt)
- comments about ability to do the job (this person can do a better job than you)
- suggestive comments about my intelligence (why would you think that?, I think you should put that foil in the microwave, somestaff constantly coming over and bothering me with problems when they could easily just message me)
- comments about food (have you had lunch yet? are you hungry? howcome you didn't bring me a snack? is that a snack or lunch?)
- openly joking about how they harass me
- possible comments regarding my mental health (though this one I am unsure of given I could be over analysing it)

I think this covers it all

as I said I raised it with my manager who said he didn't realise it was happening, well he made some comments too which were unhelpful. I even hinted at that last time he said something.

I know for a fact that there is a lot of childishness in some of the other teams, including people hooking up in the open at some of the social events.

Re: Work crap

All of this sounds toxic!

that is completely unacceptable, and if your boss isn’t gonna do anything about it I thinks you should probably look elsewhere

Re: Work crap

Hi @MDT

I'm so sorry you are having to deal with this at work.

Alot (pretty much all!) of what you have mentioned is really below the line and inappropriate for a workplace.

I know how it feels to bring issues up with management and have it completely dismissed... I would suggest keeping a diary/ notes of all the inappropriate stuff that happens/ has happened and be as specific as possible (dates/times etc) so you have evidence if this escalates further.

Do you have a HR department or employee support that you could talk to about how you are being treated?

Warm regards

Re: Work crap

Yeah @SkySeeker22 but I am incredibly sceptical of their ability

I spoke to my mum about it and said if need be I can get the union involved

Anyway I feel more myself now that I haven't been in that hell hole for a few days

At least I have 3 days left

I figured I'm just gone a be open about it

Say that I was in a really bad place given all the people suffering in my family and friend circles

I was lethargic and struggled to even do the basics

Half of it is my attitude because of the stupid management. But I'm realising that having a shite attitude due to management isn't gonna help e cope with it.

I know this beast already and I've had to deal with it before. On many occasions you will see me on this very forum talking about work issues.

I think thus may be the first time I've ever been open about it on here as I dint use the forum much at all really

Maybe that can change now ?

It's nearly 8pm

Just had dinner with my partner out locally at a pizza place

Life is actually okay minus this work crap. Gotta take head of that more often I think.

I've been through enough in my life to see this crap through

I know the steps I gotta take. Just gotta amenact them with a straight spine and look these children in the eye.

Re: Work crap

It sounds like you’re feeling more confident in speaking up.

that being said if you are not heard it’s on them, not you and you do not have to put up with a toxic workplace environment! If they will not act then you really gotta consider other options.

yes the Markets pretty awful at this time but your wellbeing is far more important and valuable then the job.
if you have to leave then you should leave.

please take care of yourself
