Question

Question

Hi,

Can you get assistance from doctors in the ER without escalating the issue into a mental health assessment? Can you just drop there to get medication and leave?

Re: Question

Hey @Fun ,

That's a bit of a vague question as it depends on what you are in there for, your symptoms, any risk, your history etc

Unfortunately, it's not something the forums community can really answer so it is best to speak to whoever is there.

What we can support you with is how you are feeling at the moment. It sounds like a bit of a confusing time? Is that fair to say?

Re: Question

That would be a tricky one for ERs to deal with, so it would depend on a lot of things like your history, the safety and efficacy of the medications etc

I would highly recommend though getting a relationship with a consistent care team where possible.

I found recently that dropping in to the local Head to Health (Also called Medicare Urgent Mental Health Clinics) really helped to find out where to go for a medication review as well as de-escalate my crisis around my medication.

They are open extended hours and a are a drop in service so appointments etc needed.

Here in Adelaide we even have one in the city that's 24 hours.

The real tricky bit is if the drug is highly regulated, there is quite a bit doctors are limited to doing, however I would suggest also maybe keeping a copy of any diagnosis and medication plans you may have got from a psychiatrist.

Completely understand how navigating the system can be so challenging and we all need to help each other through the journey.
