Welcome and getting started

Hi. I'm new here

Hi. I'm new here

Hi

I'm new here but not new to mental illness. Major Depression and Anxiety have been with me for as long as I can remember.

Going through perimenopause and doing HRT, which has also helped with managing my anxiety somewhat. Didn't expect that.

I'm sure I'll be utilising this service, especially during my depressive episodes. I have been on medication since 2017. My dosage of this has been reduced since being on HRT for perimenopause.

Hi and welcome @Carebear

I was taken by your comment " I will be utilising this service especially during my depressive episodes".

Maybe, like me you know that they will come and go. I don't know how many times I have thought 'well now I've sorted this out' only for it to return.

Like me maybe you see the Sane forums as part of your arsenal. I have a little kit bag of strategies in my room. I'm being light but you know what I mean.

I don't want you to ever be depressed again, but if you are, reach out.

Fondest regards Sooth

Hi @Carebear

Welcome to the forums. I'm sorry to hear that you have been dealing with Major Depression and Anxiety for a long time, but I am hopeful that you find the support you need here. I feel our community has a way of giving virtual hugs to people when they need them, so please know that when you reach out that we are here for you.

I think it's amazing how hormones can affect our bodies in ways that we never really deeply think about. It's good to hear that your anxiety has improved with the HRT.

Like @Sooth mentioned, think of the forums as a "tool in your tool bag". You can use the search function to find posts from other members that have shared similar things that you might find useful when you need support and waiting for a response to your own post. You can also tag people in your posts using the @ symbol so they will get notified of your post/reply.

Warm regards

Hi @Carebear, welcome to the group. I'm sure you'll find it helpful as it's a great group of caring and understanding people here.

I know I'm a 53 year year old male, but I do know a bit about these hormone therapies as I've been on it for a couple of years since being diagnosed with prostate cancer. I've always been very anxious opening up to people, but I find it easier since I started on the therapy. It's been quite strange, but had ended up helping me a lot as well because I've stopped dealing with everything myself and started to use support groups and counseling and have found it so helpful in dealing with everything... even issues going back to, well forever. The hot flushes I could do without though, they're a nightmare!

Hi @Carebear

Welcome to the forums 🙂

The rollercoaster of hormonal and emotional swings can be a wild ride at times! That's great that the HRT is helping manage some of the anxiety. What else do you find helps?

We're definitely here to help during the depressive times. We also have some social spaces for any other time you're feeling you might want to jump on here.

Nice to 'meet' you!

Re: Hi. I'm new here

Hi @Carebear! I’m new here too - this is my first post. It feels serendipitous that we’ve joined at the same time, as it sounds like some of our circumstances are similar - depression, anxiety over a long time, perimenopause, MHT / HRT. I’m glad we’re here at the same time.
