For the Sz and complex MI peeps....anyone doing well with the keto thing?

For the Sz and complex MI peeps....anyone doing well with the keto thing?

Hey people,

Paranoid sz with serious depression and anxiety but interested in anyone who is doing the whole lo carb /keto thing? My Brisbane shrink who is pretty good got me onto it and it's been a deal breaker. Less positives and down to my lowest doses of psych meds and seriously had improvements with the negs with increased motivation and improvements in goal setting and sticking to it.

It's curious stuff and I'm interested if anyone else is getting the results and doing it. I must say the keto thing was great for weight loss early but symptom improvement was probably 6 months in but my shrink is telling all his sz patients and like 2 of us stuck it out and had some great results.......There's a story there and it might not be there for everyone and there's a lot of rubbish on the net about it but......I'm curious if anyone else here is doing good with it??

Hi @rogueone

While I'm not able to share from my own experience here, I just wanted to pop by to say welcome to the forums, and good on you for making your first post.

I'm glad to hear that you have seen such positive change and I look forward to seeing other's experiences when the right community members find this post 🙂

Sounds very interesting @rogueone . I googled and found a report about an inpatient study. The study included people with bipolar and schizoaffective disorder.

Hi @rogueone

Its great to hear that you have been seeing improvements with the low carb/keto diet.

I haven't heard about it helping the particular disorders that you mentioned but I do remember hearing that our brains need a certain amount of fat in our diet to function at their optimum. I wonder if the higher fat content of this type of diet has helped your brain work more effectively and that is why the meds have been able to be reduced? Interesting stuff!

Warm regards

Yeah it's nuts. There's definite improvement and exercise helps too but been doing that for years and results are there....

Improvement with positives and the curious thing too is with negatives.

There's so much misinformation out there so don't want to get into trouble but for me it's worked wonders but it's hard work. It's like adopting a vegan lifestyle to me. It's a different way of eating and it's hard to do things like eat out.....so many carbs in everything but it's doable. The results can be pretty good too so to me it's a worthwhile thing to explore but like everything.....

Do the regular gp to get a handle on your health and don't even look at it if you've compromised health problems but I'm still curious if anyone else has had the same traction with it all??
