What are some things you enjoy doing?

Hey @Macqua !

Re: Just saying hello

Oh right, sorry - didn't even realise I used my name lol.

Problem is things that I like doing are the things that are detrimental to my health.

Poker
Fishing (I mean good for my health)

Beer - the worst.

Walking my dog Rusty ❤️

And that is about it, I don't feel I can enjoy anything in life these days.

Pretty pathetic really.

@Shift83 welcome to the Forum!

I have a doggie too and he is the best!

Fishing sounds very relaxing too.

Do you feel like the other 2 things you like are out of control? Poker and Beer?

Everyone in this forum is very supportive and understanding. I hope in time when you are comfortable you feel at ease to share your story.

Sending you hugs 🫂

Hey @Shift83 ,

I sounds like you actually have a balance of healthy go-to's as well.

I wondering what is driving the 'unhelpful' elements? I hear you feel alcohol is probably the most harmful right now?

Re: Just saying hello

Hi @Shift83 I'm 41 from Brisbane. I've tried a lot of things and have given up multiple times. Now I am back to trying again. Something happened today (something happens every day these days) and I am trying to remind myself - do not make assumptions and do not take thing personally. Even if my body is in fight/flight mode.

Re: Just saying hello

@Shift83 it’s not at all pathetic, in tough times, especially with our mental health, it’s hard to find things we enjoy. Have you tried something crafty or even found a show to fall in love with?

I used to enjoy wine as a hobby so I completely understand the unhealthy relationship with that.

Re: Just saying hello

@Cleo2 i relate to the feeling like something happens every day but eventually things will settle down. Not making assumptions and not taking things personally is great to do, although it is hard. It’s a matter of rewiring your brain to do so!

Re: Just saying hello

I spent about 2 hours the other day pouring my heart out on a beyond blue forum to relaise they only had 2500 word count limit, and then I think i saved it on my laptop which has now died. I will get the energry to write my strory again, its a very long and complex one.

I think what has tipped me over is going thorugh the Redress scheme the last year, that's lead to more drinking. Then fidning out I have ASD and ADHD along with the other letters in the alphabet has really just tipped me over, I tried to end things and cried out for help and the hopsital turned me away, basically said we can't help you [edited by moderator], so I went to the bottle shop and self-harmed [edited by moderator] as I have done for 20 + years... Then lost my licence that day and got my car impounded. So it's been a fantastic month.

Re: Just saying hello

Oh man. Sorry to hear about what you're going through.

I think that the 'letters' don't mean anything unless they lead you to learn something that helps you.

Can you think of anything good that seems to help you at times?
