Talking through trauma and PTSD

New therapist

New therapist

I started EMDR a while back but ran out of time. And I upset the counsellor once by raising current issues and chronic pain.

I tried to find another therapist who's trauma informed. I found someone local. She's expensive and doesn't process rebates. I've met her once so far. She says she avoids eye contact, doesn't make decisions for people, and when it comes to childhood trauma, she's heard it all before. It feels very off-putting, when I was hoping for help dealing with past and present family dysfunction. I think my upcoming second visit is likely to be my last. I'm disappointed to be wasting precious sessions from my MHCP. I'm socially isolated and finding the experience hurtful. Perhaps I'm just triggered?

@Dimity I hear you about people not replying. I apologise if I’ve done that to you. It would not have been intentional. Know that doesn’t stop the hurt though

know my feelings are raw currently and I’ve been feeling sensitive for while now. Even so, I’ve been left feeling unwanted, worthless and invisible due to some posts on the forums. I haven’t said anything, feeling it’s not worth saying anything. Maybe I’m being over sensitive, seeing posts created that align with my known hobbies and not being invited has triggered off my insecurities and feelings of being unwanted.

@Dimity Thinking I’m best to log off here, crawl into a hole and stay there.

Re: New therapist

Hey @Former-Member @Dimity ,

I think most of us can relate to having these feelings of insecurity, rejection, pain, hurt. After all, these are very 'human' feelings.

We all have our own sensitivities and what can 'trigger' one may not be triggering for another.

In a way, it's important to speak out if you feel comfortable doing so. Not with the intention to 'get back' at someone, but to help us remember that no one here is a mind reader (I don't think).

Your feelings are valid.

Hugs.

Hey @Former-Member , can I crawl into that 'hole' with you? You can create a new thread or I can create one for you (as long as you give me the title. "Patches' hole")

I recognise things have not been easy for you at all lately with the job and all. Happy to chat.

Hello @Former-Member and 🫂 Hugs

I care about you and I guess it's hard when we're in pain to pick up on others' pain as well.

If others haven't invited you to interest groups it's probably an oversight and you'd probably be welcome to reach out to them and say hey, that sounds good, can I join you.

I hope you and your cats get through this rough patch you're experiencing and you can find the help you've been looking for.

Re: New therapist

@Dimity Last couple weeks been mainly in self preservation mode. Been trying to do at least 2 tasks each day, first being to get out of bed before mid day. I’m wanting to try to spend less time on my iPad and more time reading books, have bought different sets that interest me.

Only possibility to get new psychologist is one via Telehealth, having to wait another week to talk to local dr for her thoughts, discuss one I have found and get new referral.

Have been starting to feel bit better until yesterday. Late last year lawyer who specialises in estate planning, wills etc did presentation where I live and she appeared to be quite friendly. I certainly learnt things that day. Yesterday had appointment with her to update my will etc and came away not feeling the best. Didn’t feel she was as friendly plus she said something that made me feel like I did the wrong thing as executor of my husbands will.

hoping you are travelling ok and that the Social Worker is providing you help and support.

Re: New therapist

Hello @Former-Member

I've been better with sleep routines since walking more and being more active. I can appreciate your wanting to read more rather than screentime. With me it's largely been eyesight.

I hope you can find a telehealth psychologist. Don't worry too much about the lawyer it's always more likely to feel under pressure when stressed so try to ride it out.

I haven't seen the social worker for a while, I've been caught up with organising for my hospitalisation. Which is where I am now. So I guess I'm in self-preservation mode too. Things are complicated re the family situation so I'll be appreciating any help she can give me.

The cat is in a cattery.

Take care

Re: New therapist

Saw my local gp this afternoon @Dimity @tyme who has email referral to new psychiatrist in my town. Online reviews mention approachable, pleasant, patient focused, good listener ….. reviews that span many years.

fingers crossed she can accept me as a new patient. I’m tired of the war and pain. Struggling to find happiness. Struggling to want to get out of bed most days. At night write down plans to do 2 or 3 things at home, following morning everything feels too hard and not worth doing. Most days feels like somewhere deep inside me is crying.
