Something’s not right

Cannot talk properly

Cannot talk properly

Hi all,

I am diagnosed schizo-effective but had a long history with bipolar. I have always been able to converse well (which can mask me as high-functioning).

In May/June I went to hospital with a psychotic episode and had a medication change.

Since I came out of that psychosis I cannot talk properly anymore. I do feel it is tied somewhat to my self-esteem which is very low at the moment. I struggle talking on the phone or when I am hanging out with someone. Along with this is a state of disinterest and lack of passion or feelings of excitement, like a kind of boredom but not depression either (which I have suffered with a lot).

I am not interested in any of the conversations I have or just about anything at the moment. I do not even have conversations in my head much at all, it is all a big non event. However I am doing a few things every day, but crave sleep most of all and do it for many hours each day.

For context I got out of hospital the first week of July.

I feel suspended at the moment and 2 dimensional.

This is very uncharacteristic for me and I do not know how to remedy it, I do not even know where to start.

Any suggestions to get me thinking would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Cannot talk properly

@tyme

I do live in a regional area so I am far away from everyone except one close friend I've known for decades and this other friend that will move here.

I don't mind transporting my parents everywhere, they are not demanding. The only time it bothers me is if I am depressed and don't want to do anything, especially in the morning.

Today has gone well with that med time change. I got so much done today and actually felt good about it rather than disconnected and empty, so by time I took the meds tonight I was on a roll and I still feel good.

This forum helped me to make that change. How I felt was bouncing in my head and writing it down and having two of you point to the medication made me think what could I do to minimise the effect.

I do not want to stop it because it stops all my delusions in their tracks, which has never been able to be achieved by any other med in two decades of trying.

Do you live rural or in the city?

Hi @tyme thanks for asking!

I'm pretty dull the last two days. I had a super busy and productive day a few days ago and have felt so tired since then. I slept 14hrs last night, which is way too much.

I just found this website Lumosity which gives you cognitive challenges which helps spark me up some, but today I stayed flat and dull.

How are you?

Hey @CousCous ,

Interesting about that website! I'm glad it keeps you going.

Do you know why you are feeling a bit flat and dull? 14hrs is a lot of sleep! I feel I need one of those too.

Re: Cannot talk properly

Hi @tyme,

I'm back to that dull not talking properly situation.

The copious sleep does not help. In that diary I told you I keep I always have better days when I wake up early and then I end up doing a lot and being chattier, but have trouble sleeping that night and it drags into the next few days.

I'm going to have to make a big effort to get out of bed earlier, I just find that hardest of all things to do when I am tired.

@PeppyPatti

Hello,

Thank you for checking in on me. I have gall bladder issues also, I was in hospital last year for it.

I came out of that period, I am back at uni and very able to hold discussions once more.

Mentally I am doing quite well at the moment. My moods have been very stable and I have not been affected too much from my usual position of depression.

The new year is going well so far.

How are you? And did you have to get your gall bladder out?

Regards x
