Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

Hey Forumites!!

This is a space for members new and old, to gather around and help make our newer members feel welcome!

We've all been newbies ourselves at some point, and can empathise with how incredibly daunting it can be entering a new space. A lot of folks have trouble even knowing where to start, and (even though we're in the midst of improving it all) we know the forums can be a tricky space to navigate - which can make it very difficult for newbies to be able to find their footing! On top of that, joining any established community means being 'the new kid on the block', and seeing others connecting easily with established relationships can sometimes feel like we aren't welcome, or that we need to 'break in' to the conversation somehow.

Well this space aims to alleviate that pressure and help facilitate some new connections! Whether you're brand new here or you've been here since the very beginning, you're welcome to come hang out, meet some new people, reconnect with others, and maybe even make a new friend!

We will try to tag new members as they join, so help us make them feel welcome!

Tagging in our lovely bunch of Community Guides too! They're seasoned members who volunteer their time and energy towards making the forums a safe and welcoming place for everyone. We wouldn't have the community we do without their efforts and their passion! Feel free to reach out to them, they're always quite happy to help guide and support 😊

Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

Thank you @Oaktree for asking - I’m really sad. Sad I can’t help her. Last night was the same as previous nights where she gets heightened and screams and yells and breaks things - this follows with a coming down and her saying sorry she is so mean and she’s a bad person as she doesn’t want to live. I’m just so sad for her. I’m trying to look at the wins - she has been having family dinner with us for 10 min. She gives us her phone at midnight. I really appreciate you reaching out. It feels very lonely but less so with this group.

Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

It's a good strategy isn't it because it works. If I spend most of the time attacking each other then we never really know what they're actually planning to do

I have been there. I have spent so much time feeling suicidal. Whatever you do don’t let her push you away. That is a deliberate strategy to make it easier to suicide. You push your family and friends away and distance yourself so that you don’t feel bad about doing it.
I can tell you that no matter how hard and how dark things are for her that she will eventually get to the other side of the darkness. I attempted in 2009 but I am grateful that I survived. I am sorry that things are so hard right now. Please keep reaching out here

@Bobobali

Yes it’s an effective strategy. We will distract you over to this so that you don’t notice that. I wish politicians would just be honest and kinder to each other

Welcome to the group @Bobobali. It's great to meet you. Well, you know what I mean. Virtually.

I just love to meet new people virtually. When I get close with people though I wish I could really meet them. Being in an anonymous world can be challenging

Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

@B_D_V I'm so sorry it was another bad night for her. I can't imagine the pain of watching your child struggle so much and be this distressed!

I'm sure she doing the best she can, as you all are. Keep reminding her that it's not her fault in any way and that she's not a bad person. Just someone who really needs some help in their lives right now, like all of us do at times. I can't help but think the system has really failed her and sending her home while feeling this way is not helping her in any way! It just should not be this hard for her right now, or for you to try and support her. We're always here to support you however we can.

Just continue to keep her close and make her feel as loved as possible. It must be so heartbreaking when she calms down and says those things! Have you tried calling those support lines yourself, to get some guidance for anything else you could possible do to help your daughter right now. It might be good to just talk to someone, for yourself, and just to get some ideas and maybe some extra resources. I wish I could think of ways to make this easier for you all right now, other than just being here if you need to talk.

@B_D_V

What state are you in?

You could call lifeline for support for your daughter, even if you call them yourself to just get some advice.

Their number is 131 114
