Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

Hey Forumites!!

This is a space for members new and old, to gather around and help make our newer members feel welcome!

We've all been newbies ourselves at some point, and can empathise with how incredibly daunting it can be entering a new space. A lot of folks have trouble even knowing where to start, and (even though we're in the midst of improving it all) we know the forums can be a tricky space to navigate - which can make it very difficult for newbies to be able to find their footing! On top of that, joining any established community means being 'the new kid on the block', and seeing others connecting easily with established relationships can sometimes feel like we aren't welcome, or that we need to 'break in' to the conversation somehow.

Well this space aims to alleviate that pressure and help facilitate some new connections! Whether you're brand new here or you've been here since the very beginning, you're welcome to come hang out, meet some new people, reconnect with others, and maybe even make a new friend!

We will try to tag new members as they join, so help us make them feel welcome!

Here's today's newest forumites:

Feel free to tell us a little about yourself, what brought you to the forums, and what you're looking for here!

Tagging in our lovely bunch of Community Guides too! They're seasoned members who volunteer their time and energy towards making the forums a safe and welcoming place for everyone. We wouldn't have the community we do without their efforts and their passion! Feel free to reach out to them, they're always quite happy to help guide and support 😊

Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

welcome @B_D_V really lovely to have you here 😊

sounds like there's been a lot going on for both you and your daughter. i can see how this is an overwhelming and challenging time for you all, it means a lot to see you reach out here to support your daughter, it takes a lot of courage to take that step and we're really glad you've done that.

does your daughter have any professional supports? (a psychologist, therapist, etc?) if she doesn't already, getting her a professional to talk would be really great for her, and even encouraging her to lean into her close/trusted friends for support.

headspace also has a free 1-on-1 clinician chat that your child can access: Connect with a mental health clinician 1-on-1 | headspace.

while you look after her, please don't forget to look after yourself too! you've gone through a lot as well and it's equally important that you have a space to explore how you're coping.

here are some resources for you:

i'm not a parent myself so i'll let the other members share their experiences, but just know you're not alone here & we're sitting with you 💗

Thanks Ruby - right now she’s rejecting all kinds of help which is the hardest thing. I know it would help if she just connects with one person and feels understood - but that means she needs to be open and vulnerable

Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

I appreciate that - she has a psychologist and psychiatrist but as I told Ruby - she is rejecting all help and not open - she has been hurt in the past and so she struggles to trust people 💔

Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

Hi @B_D_V, welcome to the group and I'm so sorry to hear what you're going through with your daughter. Hopefully she will start to accept some of that help available to her soon, but I struggle to imagine just how hard it is for you right now. Just remember to try and take a bit of time for yourself as well. Even if it's just so you can continue to support her as best as you possibly can. It feels to me like they have just thrown the problem into your hands which is terrible. It's hard to see how sending her home in this state is helping anyone. I hope things start to improve for you both soon and we're here to support however we can.
