Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

Hey Forumites!!

This is a space for members new and old, to gather around and help make our newer members feel welcome!

We've all been newbies ourselves at some point, and can empathise with how incredibly daunting it can be entering a new space. A lot of folks have trouble even knowing where to start, and (even though we're in the midst of improving it all) we know the forums can be a tricky space to navigate - which can make it very difficult for newbies to be able to find their footing! On top of that, joining any established community means being 'the new kid on the block', and seeing others connecting easily with established relationships can sometimes feel like we aren't welcome, or that we need to 'break in' to the conversation somehow.

Well this space aims to alleviate that pressure and help facilitate some new connections! Whether you're brand new here or you've been here since the very beginning, you're welcome to come hang out, meet some new people, reconnect with others, and maybe even make a new friend!

We will try to tag new members as they join, so help us make them feel welcome!

Here's today's newest forumites:

@Bellle

Feel free to tell us a little about yourself, what brought you to the forums, and what you're looking for here!

Tagging in our lovely bunch of Community Guides too! They're seasoned members who volunteer their time and energy towards making the forums a safe and welcoming place for everyone. We wouldn't have the community we do without their efforts and their passion! Feel free to reach out to them, they're always quite happy to help guide and support 😊

Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

Hello thanks for the message. I was struggling a bit on the weekend. Feeling a bit better now that I'm keeping busier. When I've got nothing to do I tend to fall apart. Trying to get back into my music to help with my mental health.

Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

Hiya there!

Thank you for the invite and welcome @Ru-bee!

I'm still getting used to actually posting on forums (as opposed to searching silently in the shadows and empathising with every message I read!) - so thank you for the little nudge to post!

I found out about this forum from a lovely peer worker who works with a community service dedicated to helping patients post hospital admission for SI/or suicide attempt.

After browsing a handful of Reddit threads on MI, SI and such... I asked if there were any moderated and more importantly, safe online forums around that I could either lurk or post on when things get a wee bit too much.

Most of my life has revolved around my mental health - whether it be surviving or recovering.

And although I am grateful to be surrounded by my family and friends - they don't really get 'it' ('it' being chronic SI, the disbelief that you're still alive, the decades of not knowing who you are, whether it's just you being sensitive or other people are actually mean... or just a cocktail of both).

And it's not their fault - hell I'm glad they don't understand, I'd never wish what I've been thru on another person.

It's just a bit awkward when they hear the truth about how I really think and feel.

I recently completed DBT two years ago - and I loved every bit of it.

The learning, the open conversations about MH, and especially being amongst a group of individuals with lived MH experience.

No one flinched at the mention of SI, or frowned and made offensive remarks about a particular diagnosis.

I felt listened to, seen, and understood for the first time in my life.

So I guess I'm here because like a lot of people - I feel alone in my MI struggles and this seems like a nice safe space to talk about it.

P.S: I apologise for the waffling!
