Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

Hey Forumites!!

This is a space for members new and old, to gather around and help make our newer members feel welcome!

We've all been newbies ourselves at some point, and can empathise with how incredibly daunting it can be entering a new space. A lot of folks have trouble even knowing where to start, and (even though we're in the midst of improving it all) we know the forums can be a tricky space to navigate - which can make it very difficult for newbies to be able to find their footing! On top of that, joining any established community means being 'the new kid on the block', and seeing others connecting easily with established relationships can sometimes feel like we aren't welcome, or that we need to 'break in' to the conversation somehow.

Well this space aims to alleviate that pressure and help facilitate some new connections! Whether you're brand new here or you've been here since the very beginning, you're welcome to come hang out, meet some new people, reconnect with others, and maybe even make a new friend!

We will try to tag new members as they join, so help us make them feel welcome!

Here's today's newest forumites:

Feel free to tell us a little about yourself, what brought you to the forums, and what you're looking for here!

Tagging in our lovely bunch of Community Guides too! They're seasoned members who volunteer their time and energy towards making the forums a safe and welcoming place for everyone. We wouldn't have the community we do without their efforts and their passion! Feel free to reach out to them, they're always quite happy to help guide and support 😊

Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

Oh I love solitaire @magnolia84 I haven't played it in a long time but I used to challenge myself to see how quickly I could complete it

I'm trying to take the time to learn how to sew at the moment. I've had a sewing machine for ages, and did some quilting with my gran years ago, but I've never really learned how to sew any clothes and I've always wanted to! I'm starting off simple with some tote bags and plan to improve my skills by trying just slightly harder patterns for every project 😃

@Ru-bee

Solitaire definitely helps numb the mind when the anxious thoughts are in overdrive.

I've always wanted to sew but I'm definitely not neat enough for that. I went to a quilting expo recently and the attention to detail was incredible.

Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

@magnolia84

Tuesdays are a mixture for me as i work nightshift Monday night so am a little slow, but Tuesday is the main social day at the local Senior Citizens where I am a member. No, I am not a senior citizen at 58 but followed an ad on a wall and met some people there who I clicked with so go regularly.

They do a lunch on Tuesday but today I opted for a meal at the RSL, they cook far better than I can. Cooking for one and planning meals is one of the biggest challenges to living on your own I find. Do you live alone?

Hope your day has been good.

Hi there,

I’m not seeing any logic when it comes to the label they’ve given me, but they insist on thinking they know my mind better than me, but I continue to advocate for myself and to prove them wrong - the system is broken 😞

How’s you?

@Warina

Hi,

do you mind me asking what label? If you do not an issue.

My ex-wife suffered from depression, me schizophrenia, and my ex-wife went off her medication to use self-will in some was due to me. Eventually she relapsed after our first child was born with post-natal depression but did not want me to discuss it.

That makes it hard for a partner if you have one, are you having difficulties like this as well?

Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

Hi, @Alittleorange

I'm grateful to share my story and connect with others who understand the complexities of mental health.

I’ve been labelled as Bipolar, but my truth encompasses so much more. I'm living with:
- Severe Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD)
- Complicated Grief Disorder after losing my beloved firstborn son
- Type 1 Diabetes, which adds another layer of challenge

The loss of my child has been the most devastating experience of my life. I've endured multiple losses, but this pain is unparalleled. It's shattered my heart into a million pieces.

I've never sought help from mental health services; unfortunately, I've witnessed and experienced traumatic treatment that can only be described as torture.

We all grieve differently, but losing a child is an indescribable agony. I don't need a label to validate my sorrow; my grief is real, and it's justified.

Thank you for sharing your own experiences. I find solace in knowing I'm not alone.

Wishing you and your loved ones strength, hope, and healing.

Warm regards,

Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

Thank you for sharing some of your experiences here @Warina and I hope this can be a safe space for you to continue to do so

I'm so sorry for your loss. I admire your assertion that your grief is real and justified, as so many of us struggle with feeling the need to downplay our struggles. To be so open and frank about such a hurt shows real courage and strength.

I'm also sorry to hear that you have witnessed and experienced treatment within the system that has prevented you from seeking more support. It's so disappointing to hear and I know that others here have shared similar experiences. I will say that there are some incredible supports out there, but I completely understand your reluctance after your experiences.

Do you have any other supports who you tend to lean on during hard times, such as family members or friends?
