Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

Hey Forumites!!

This is a space for members new and old, to gather around and help make our newer members feel welcome!

We've all been newbies ourselves at some point, and can empathise with how incredibly daunting it can be entering a new space. A lot of folks have trouble even knowing where to start, and (even though we're in the midst of improving it all) we know the forums can be a tricky space to navigate - which can make it very difficult for newbies to be able to find their footing! On top of that, joining any established community means being 'the new kid on the block', and seeing others connecting easily with established relationships can sometimes feel like we aren't welcome, or that we need to 'break in' to the conversation somehow.

Well this space aims to alleviate that pressure and help facilitate some new connections! Whether you're brand new here or you've been here since the very beginning, you're welcome to come hang out, meet some new people, reconnect with others, and maybe even make a new friend!

We will try to tag new members as they join, so help us make them feel welcome!

Here's today's newest forumites:

@noodles1

@IndigOverwhelm

@Sam63

@Bellle

Feel free to tell us a little about yourself, what brought you to the forums, and what you're looking for here!

Tagging in our lovely bunch of Community Guides too! They're seasoned members who volunteer their time and energy towards making the forums a safe and welcoming place for everyone. We wouldn't have the community we do without their efforts and their passion! Feel free to reach out to them, they're always quite happy to help guide and support 😊

Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

I've read a few self-help and psychology books @Shaz51 @Ruby24, but not in quite a while. I think it was the effect of doing my studies in that area and having to read so many textbooks which made me a bit burnt out on the reading front. I think I'll slowly ease back into it so I'll have to write some of these down to check out!

That's a tricky situation @MJG017 I can understand the professional ethics of not wanting to continue on when it doesn't appear to be helpful, but it sounds like this came as a bit of a surprise, and as you mentioned, left you feeling like you've lost your professional supports. Are you interested in looking into any different/new supports, or will you give it some time?

It didn't come as much as a surprise because the last couple of sessions the hints began that I should really think about moving on. The session today it was a bit more than a hint and I just didn't feel comfortable arguing the point about whether I found it helpful or not.

I mentioned that I had an appointment with a counselor to talk about all my childhood issues and the struggles they still give me today. She told me that was a good plan and that it would help me deal with my ongoing cancer treatments. I did say I used the sessions with her to talk about my mental struggles with my diagnosis (as it was an oncology psychology service) and this other counselor for my other issues but she insisted it would help with both and that discharging me was the best option for me. My thought was "Well then who can I talk to now about my struggles dealing with my health!?" But I had given up by this time and just agreed to not make anymore appointments. I'll look for more professional help with the cancer side of things but it might not be an affordable option. This current service was provided free for cancer patients at the hospital.

So i'm doing what I can, but just worried about the end of November when I get my next 3-month test and go through all that stress and anxiety again leading up to it. It was quite bad for the week or so leading up to the last test result meeting last week and I don't know how many times I can go through that but who knows, may she's right and working on my self confidence and self esteem will help me deal with the stress of these tests every three months.

this is actually what happened to my mr shaz

he agrees but feels not good like you

I got to be a model for half an hour -- ohhh wow , how exciting my friend xx

I hope Mr Shaz feels better soon. To me it feels like I've been abandoned and put in the too hard basket. Is he looking for any new support?

The modeling thing was something different 😁 I thought they'd turn up snap a pic and go. She had me doing all sorts of poses and looks. I got an email from the PR woman who had arranged it and she said the article has been 'filed with the editor' (whatever that means) and that she'd share a clipping with me as soon as it's published. So I'm not sure if it will actually get in the paper or not.
