Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

Hey Forumites!!

This is a space for members new and old, to gather around and help make our newer members feel welcome!

We've all been newbies ourselves at some point, and can empathise with how incredibly daunting it can be entering a new space. A lot of folks have trouble even knowing where to start, and (even though we're in the midst of improving it all) we know the forums can be a tricky space to navigate - which can make it very difficult for newbies to be able to find their footing! On top of that, joining any established community means being 'the new kid on the block', and seeing others connecting easily with established relationships can sometimes feel like we aren't welcome, or that we need to 'break in' to the conversation somehow.

Well this space aims to alleviate that pressure and help facilitate some new connections! Whether you're brand new here or you've been here since the very beginning, you're welcome to come hang out, meet some new people, reconnect with others, and maybe even make a new friend!

We will try to tag new members as they join, so help us make them feel welcome!

Here's today's newest forumites:

Feel free to tell us a little about yourself, what brought you to the forums, and what you're looking for here!

Tagging in our lovely bunch of Community Guides too! They're seasoned members who volunteer their time and energy towards making the forums a safe and welcoming place for everyone. We wouldn't have the community we do without their efforts and their passion! Feel free to reach out to them, they're always quite happy to help guide and support 😊

I enjoy writing and playing music and poetry, surfing and swimming, bushwalking or walking in general.

Amazing @Flowerflesh .

Thank you so much for sharing a little about yourself. It sounds like you have been through the mill and back and you have come to share the story.

Lived experience is incredibly powerful. In my own recovery, I had a lot of clinical support, but it was peer support and hearing from others that made the real difference.

Peer support allows us to connect with others and know that we are not alone. It gives us hope and assurance, even when things are so tough.

I love swimming also. I have a pool at home, so I hop in quite often.

And I read that you have a kid you have to remember and look after too. Well done on being the best parent you can be at this time.

Just a note, SANE's Guided Recovery will be accessible to all postcodes by July 1.

In the meantime, feel free to 'Start a New' discussion if there is anything in particular you want to ask or share.

There are others who love writing poetry etc.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I have always wanted to travel to other parts of Australia as well, especially Perth and Sydney. Hopefully one day not so far I will be able to achieve that

Hey, @Flowerflesh

Nice to meet you. I have been doing creative writing for 4 years and would love to know about your journey if you're comfortable sharing.

I am more than happy to share mine as well. Hope to get a reply from you soon.

@ale_inmelb , Perth is lovely. Sydney is crowded, but it depends on where you live I guess.

Queensland is a lot warmer.

It's amazing that we live in the one country, but it can be so different in climate, people, places, and everything!

I hope you enjoy your stay while you are here studying @ale_inmelb

I will surely enjoy it here, but also missing my home country summer vibe hehe.

One thing I am jealous about with the Aussies is that you guys' Christmas is in Summer and y'all are out and about on the beach.

My home country doesn't celebrate Christmas unless like the family is Christian. That's why I really look forward to my first Christmas here in Australia. After that I will go back to my home country for NYE

Sure! I started journalling as a teenager and ever since have written poetry and songs. I've studied music composition but never creative writing beyond highschool. Ever since my last mental break down about a year ago my poetry writing really ramped up as a coping strategy. There are hundreds there, and I'm hoping to figure out a way to share them with the world. I started a substack account, and I'm hoping I can print a collection of them to sell too. I've never done that before. Some of them I like to recite over the top of music I've written. What about you?
