Advocating for change

Self advocacy.

Self advocacy.

Hi all.

I'm in the psych ward at the moment. They are discharging me today.

However i have severe pneumonia and I'm really sick. Like really really sick.

I've spent my admission in bed with high fevers and high resp rates. Isolating in my has been hard. But I've been too sick to care and I've been just trying to breathe or sleep so being in my room has been fine. Most of the nurses have just been ignoring me too.

I don't know what to do. I feel too medically unwell to go home. How do I slef advocate to be moved to a medical ward instead of going home. How do I make them listen when I just can't talk. Or lack the motivation and energy to stand up for myself.

And tips would be great.

Ach that sounds so painful @The-red-centaur but I'm glad to hear you're feeling better! You stuck bedside for a while I'm guessing?

@Jynx pretty much.

I feel like I may have been speaking a little early tho...had a massive coughing spree ending in red mucus/spewtum. I'm over it all

Just read your whole thread and totally empathise with your situation, it sounds awful but I am glad that you were able to advocate for yourself enough to get admitted. I hope your pneumonia gets better soon. Sending strength for more colouring, I know it helps me when I am struggling.

@dummymummy thank you so much.

I'm sorry you can empathise the psychiatric system still has a long way to go.

Funny story the ward I was on called today for a general follow up phone call. Told them where I was. They didn't even know or seem to care. It's the same hospital for f sake.

I'm on the improve slowly. I had a few visitors and it was nice. I can barely talk tho. I've lost my voice coz I talk too much.

@The-red-centaur ohhh yikes, seeing red in your sputum would not be a fun time 😖

Oh wow, the staff at that hospital must be all kinds of burnt out or something to just not care at all! Like, zero accountability hey. Rough.

Haha you're like me eh? All my sore throats last a LOT longer than they ought to cos I just love having big phat chats with people! Sounds like it'd be painful to talk too, you poor dear!

Hope you're not too bored yet?
