Can’t settle down

Can’t settle down

Hi everyone I hope you are all having a good day, so I can’t seem to settle down I am really hyped right now and I haven’t slept in over 40 hours and I really tried to sleep but I couldn’t and I tried sleep apps and music and hypnosis videos to try and calm down and sleep but I just couldn’t and idk what to do I am hoping I sleep tonight if I don’t idk what I will do but I don’t feel as tired as I should. Anyway any tips for trying to settle and sleep or even just be less hyped up would be much welcomed because I am out of ideas.

Re: Can’t settle down

Aww @Eden1919 sending you big hugs! I know just how horrible it is to be unable to sleep, it's actual torture.

I think the tricky part sometimes for me is that I begin to feel frustrated whenever I can't sleep, but that frustration is activation in my system which means the more agitated I am from it, the harder it is to drift off. I sometimes have to take a break from trying to sleep, and just spend like 30 min or so reading or something to try to calm my system down. Breathing techniques also help me to reduce my heart rate and... I guess sometimes it's almost like, trying to tell our bodies to chill out, that we're not in danger and can in fact safely go unconscious.

You could also have a chat to your GP about it, if you haven't already?

I kicked off a sleep thread a little bit ago, maybe you could have a read and see if anyone else's thoughts/suggestions could be helpful: Counting Sheep

Hello @Eden1919

Sorry you aren't getting sleep!!! This video seems to work for me. Its an eastern technique for settling the mind and preparing you for a more calming state of being that is conducive to rest. Sometimes I need to really engage my body as hypnosis and meditation just won't work like you said.

You can also try using something like lemon balm extract I use it to get the racing thoughts out of my mind before bed. The brand I use is Vimergy - its one of the few supps on the market made without fillers or significant dilution. Its like magic it just empties my mind and allows me to let go of the stressors of the day.

I also use cleansed and charged amethyst which transports me to a state of complete peacefulness and being at total ease with myself, blocking out any unwanted energy that may come between myself and my need to get sleep

Sometimes I use magnesium oil - a few sprays which I rub anywhere into my skin like a cream and it will entrain my body and mind to a relaxing state.

These are some of the things I try - it just sounds like you are a bit out of balance right now which happens to me from time to time

I hope you can get adequate rest tonight. My top pick is doing the Qi gong exercise. Its free and is a great survival strategy if my yin/yang balance is out of proper alignment. It just works with my body's natural energy allowing it to be properly directed into greater flow

@Eden1919

I would talk to health professional and try to get some medication to help you sleep.

They can suggest something for you.

Sorry to hear that you can't settle and sleep atm.

Hi @Eden1919 lets give your thoughts a break. forget about the things on mind for a moment. One great advice don't ever take phone when you sleep. because it keep you wake. What if you read a book? you have to take good sleep. If not you will be weak physically.

Re: Can’t settle down

Firstly, you’re not alone! I’d strongly encourage you to make an appt ASAP with your GP. I was prescribed some medication short-term to help with sleep/anxiety and it has been great. Once you have some sleep under your belt it will improve your mood immensely and it will help you settle down. Here for you!

Re: Can’t settle down

Hi, @Eden1919 I know you have tried quite a few things, trying to quiet down the mind sometimes can be hard. When I experienced this, it was the amount of caffeine I consumed during the day that was causing this, a few of the medications I was on were also making me hypo. I spoke to my GP and after a bit of adjustments to my medications and lifestyle, I was able to sleep well. If it continues might be worthwhile to seek advice from your GP.

Wishing you a speedy recovery from this and a good night's sleep, take care.

Re: Can’t settle down

Hi @Eden1919 it must be very unsettling for you. You said before you notice it when you're coming to the end of your depot cycle. Has your depot changed? You might need to re-evaluate it with your team. With oral meds my psychs used to select them taking into account how sedating they were and their side effects. With my current one I can take extra prn.

Does exercise during the day help at all?

I don't know about you but my efforts at conventional sleep hygiene don't help much.

Re: Can’t settle down

Thanks everyone I haven’t been consuming any caffeine and it isn’t anxiety related I have been trying all the usual sleep hygiene stuff with no luck. I don’t currently have a GP so that is a slight problem but I am working on getting a new one I have tried countless sleep meds in the past with no luck so that isn’t really an option either I am really at a loss in the last 96 hours I have had 2 hours of sleep and I am going on night 3 with no sleep I am also having some other weird things happening so idk what to do anymore.

Hello @Eden1919 I think it's time to get in touch with your MH prescriber before things escalate or you crash. You don't want to push it beyond 3 nights.

Take care, nap if you can. Please keep us updated on what happens for you.
