A poem about trauma
I am not my trauma
I am a person
A child, sibling, a family member
I am more than my family name however
I am me, myself, I and us.
I separate myself from origins
When they hurt me I felt so small
A child with no voice
But now I speak out
I am not what happened to me
They tried to push me down
But I rise above it
I create who I am now
I am an artist, a poet, this creator
A vibrant colour of passion and expression
Brush strokes on the canvas of my life cant be undone but I paint over them
I make where this story unfolds
I dictate my destiny and make my identity
I am not just someone to be used and abused
They tore apart my body
Ripping me from the inside out
Then cocooned me in the lies
But I emerge as my own beautiful
They r@ped me
Hit me,
Hunted and haunted me
My mind then become a prison that the past trapped me
I break out, finally free
I am not the trauma
I am not what they did to me
I am me
And that is enough
