@ENKELI I read ya whole post hun, and first off I do really appreciate your openness and vulnerability!! Hope even just the act of writing it out was helpful.

It does sound like your mum has some unprocessed/unhealed wounds of her own, and it is a very emotionally mature stance to be able to hold empathy and understanding for that. Doesn't mean it didn't also have a lasting impact on you and your relationships! Our parents may have been doing the best they could, but it also just wasn't good enough to ensure we could grow up with safe, secure functioning in ourselves and with our loved ones. We've had to carve those out for ourselves.

Aww hun! I hate this platitude, reminds me of this Brenee Brown video about empathy - the whole 'at least you don't have x!' BS, which to me is basically just a veiled attempt to say 'I don't understand and your emotions are uncomfortable for me, you should stop feeling them'. Grrrr

When my mum and I left dad

Over the next years we moved and lived with 3 different Aunties and uncles families houses

And then moved into grandmother house and then and aunty and her 4 children moved in with us for a few years

@Shaz51 I imagine that would have been both an enriching experience, and one that also caused a lot of instability!
