Readjusting socially

Readjusting socially

Hi everyone,

I'm not really certain how to describe my issues at the moment. I guess my main issue is I constantly feel more and more isolated and at gatherings I feel like I really want adjust socially again after last year, but I always find myself bored or anxious or too tired to go out or attend events and then immediately feel guilty and angry at myself for not trying harder and constantly worry about becoming a shut in

you'll be okay. talk about this with your gp, they may be able to prescribe a dopamine increasing medication to help you get back on track.

Hey @Shirazchurch

It's tough when social situations bring anxiety hey. When you say you want to adjust socially do you mean you want to engage more socially with others? Good on you for coming to the forums to discuss it.

Yes I want to engage more socially but I just feel like I don't know what to say

Hey @Shirazchurch

What I do sometimes is look up pages with conversation starters....these can give you some interesting questions to ask people. Like one of my favourites is to ask "If you could have any superpower, what would it be?". I got that from one of the conversation starters pages. I do get social anxiety myself so I like to have a few questions that I can fall back on.

Morning @Shirazchurch

I know how ye feel, in social situations I can get very awkward not knowing what to say or mixing my words up. The best thing I found is to go to social events where their are activities, that way most people are thinging about the activity and everyone has something to talk about. Volunteering is a great social activity to get involved in........Asgard

Re: Readjusting socially

Hi, @Shirazchurch I understand and can relate to what you mean. I suffered from social anxiety and depression for a long time. Being in a large crowd can sometimes be overwhelming. The issue I was facing was the events I was going to did not interest me, I got put off talking to people. it's important to find what interests you and meet people who share the same interests as you. You could try just by saying" Hi.........I'm.............introduce yourself. Engaging in your hobbies and interests can sometimes break the boredom. Be patient with yourself, believe in yourself, and be kind to yourself. Take it slow and you will get there! Wishing you all the happiness, take care 🙂

Re: Readjusting socially

Hey @Shirazchurch ,

Great to hear from you again. It's been a while it feels 🙂

I hear socialising can be hard. I feel that myself!

As much as I don't like socialising, I know I have to in order to stay 'well'. This is something for me. It doesn't mean it's like that for everyone.

So tomorrow, I've got a coffee meetup with an ex-colleague of mine. I don't REALLY want to go and feel there are a billion other things I could be doing, but I'm just going...

I'm interested to hear your thoughts.

Re: Readjusting socially

Thanks very much for that. My biggest problem I think is I'm not very patient with myself and feel like I need to accomplish a lot to get through my weekend and times alone
