Every day is getting harder and harder

Every day is getting harder and harder

I'm the host of DID system and we have been diagnosed with bipolar and are in the process of an official autism diagnosis.

We've made a lot of progress since February when we found out about our DID, internal communication is a lot better, we understand each other a lot more and etc, but I am struggling mentally a lot. There's been a lot of stress recently and with the stress the system has grown. Currently we are at 25 members and though we support each other and reassure each other I know that our current environment is hurtful and it's not just me who's suffering because of it.

I work at a corporate full time office job that can be incredibly stressful and it's not a safe environment where our DID can be disclosed meaning if I'm not present the others need to act like me. It's just exhausting and I wish I could work somewhere that would cater towards my DID. It's gotten to the point where I will disappear for hours and someone will be in my place and have no choice but to do my job even when they feel they personally can't handle it. I don't know how much longer we can withstand dealing with this without completing breaking down.

I just feel so lost and I don't know what to do. It makes me feel so ashamed of us.

Hey @theponiesplaza and a big warm welcome to your whole system 😊

Thank you for sharing your story with us, it sounds like you're really taking some solid steps to self-understanding and acceptance! It does suck IMMENSELY that there is still just so much dang stigma, especially about DID. I can completely understand that it does not feel safe to disclose to your workplace. I suppose one thought might be to disclose to your employer that you have a chronic condition that requires some leeway/accommodations, and decline to reveal anything further. Do you think that would be well-received, or could it cause more trouble than it's worth? Are you super attached to the job? Perhaps job hunting here n there to see if there's anywhere that might be a more open and accepting work environment?

It's a tough situation to be sure, and I can imagine that choosing whether or not to share your entire selves with others can feel like walking through a mine field. Well, you'll find only acceptance here, I hope you find what you're looking for within the community 💜

Hey @theponiesplaza

I'm sorry to hear things are tough for you and your guys. You have no reason to feel ashamed. I don't have DID, but one of my friends does...she has done research into grounding techniques and it sounds like you have been working well on setting up internal communication. One thing that I think of when I hear your story is that at times when I have been severely dissociative I have kept a book and jotted what I'm doing, what I have done, etc...it has helped me....I'm not sure if this is something that might help you?

Morning @theponiesplaza and lovely to virtually meet you all. Glad that you have found your way here, where you all will be accepted with open arms.

I was just thinking that @Ainjoule suggestion about journalling your daily activities so in this way when you read back, everyone is aware of whats going on.

Have no experience of DID, but wishing you all the best and take careof yourselves......Asgard

Re: Every day is getting harder and harder

Hi @theponiesplaza

I also have a dx of DID and feel you on the exhaustion /mental breakdown front. Sometimes I wish I would just have a breakdown so I could just completely fall in a heap but I guess this stupid condition is about not drawing attention to myself and so that feels impossible. I also work full time and definitely not in a place where I would feel safe to share that. I'm actually still trying to hide it from myself most the time. I'm glad you've found a way to accept and explore that and hopefully that leads to more and more positive things.
