so I was 11 days free of self harm and now I’m not but that was like 2 days ago and I feel guilty about it and I feel like a bad person for doing it and I thought I was going so good but now I’m not but I also think I did sh because I didn’t and don’t want to be clean but I have been free again for 2 days so I’ll see how far it goes this time

Re: Rant

Hi @MarronButterFly

I just want to pop in and say how it works for me. I too have SH issues.

SH is an addiction, it’s hard to break an addiction. So this time you went 11 days and had a lapse as apposed to a relapse.

Its kinda like smoking. I’m using this as I’m currently working on that. So I have gone 65 days and I’m gaining control. However I have had a lapse three times. It’s just been one cigarette at a time but not days together, just the odd day. I still see myself as having quit even though I’ve had the lapse.

I went 36 days last time and then had a relapse and started smoking again. I then started the quitting process again.

Sorry this has been all about me but I am hoping that you can relate it all to your SH and don’t beat yourself up. You are not a bad person. You have done very well. If you relapse then you can start being clean again. It’s ok.

Hi @MarronButterFly

I'm really sorry you're feeling this way. It's understandable to feel guilty, but please remember that setbacks don't erase the progress you've made. I agree with @Captain24.

You're not a bad person for struggling – recovery isn't linear, and it's okay to have ups and downs. It's courageous of you to keep trying, and we're here to support you through this journey. ❤️

Re: Rant

Hi @MarronButterFly,

Thank you very much for sharing what you've been going through with us.

As both @Captain24 and @lavenderhaze have said, you should not feel guilty and recovery is not linear, by any means. Setbacks and relapses are just extra steps we can learn from on our pathways to recovery.

You are not alone and we are all here to support you.

Be kind to yourself 🧡

Re: Rant

Hi @MarronButterFly

How's your weekend?

Just dropping in to send you some support. No matter what, you're an awesome human on this ball of rock and water spinning through space and time. Today is a new day.

Someone mentioned smoking as a comparison to the addiction of relief.. there is no shame in a lapse. Keep going lovely. You've got this! The desire for healing, for the alternative healthy pathway of release is there, the new creative expression. What does it look like for you? Feel like for you? You're smiling, happy?

I also quit smoking 10 years ago, after many tries. I'd get upset and then the desire for a smoke would rise up, overwhelming, ingrained, all I'd known. Bit by bit, new idea, new coping method, new belief in the new life and expression would be laid down, and no shame for the lapses, which happened a few times (only natural, just old pathways, like a slippery old mud track my car is still getting new tires fitted for to be able to manage).

Let that old identity go. They're past. You're leaving that muddy track with the new tires now, for your new life, bit by bit 💜🩷💜
