Talking through trauma and PTSD

Healing journey is more isolating than anticipated

Healing journey is more isolating than anticipated

Tl:dr – DID is really isolating and I healing is hard, really hard

I am struggling.

I have a history of trauma and dissociation, and I’m working with a really good somatic psychologist weekly. The last couple of sessions have left parts of our system feeling really uncomfortable, taking something that has been said the wrong way, and this has left me wonky for a few days following.

The problem I have now is that, when I struggle, there’s no one in my immediate circle who understands these struggles or the confusion or pain, or any of it really.

My partner is wonderful, my friends are wonderful, my work is good, my psychologist is good. I’m just feeling isolated and like I need a week off to scream and cry and rage that any of my past was allowed to happen, but I have a life and I can’t stop to feel any of it.

Does anyone else feel like their healing journey has left them feeling more alone than before?

Hey @BaggyJeans ,

Thank you for reaching out. It sure sounds like a bit of a lonely journey. I hear how hard it can be for your immediate circle not to understand. At the same time, from my experience, I found it hardest to help those closest to me. Not because I didn't care, I was just too close to the people.

I wonder if it's not that they don't want to help you, but they really just don't know how?

Do you have any professional supports?

What helped me was the I utilised the skills of my professional supports in one way, and then I had people closer to me as more social supports.

I'm interested to hear your thoughts.

@tyme thanks for responding.

I agree about close circles, and I'm not actually looking to my circle for help, I know it isn't fair to ask that of them, just as I know it isn't my job to help them with certain aspects of their journey. There is always support and love, but they can't understand something they haven't experienced.

It's more that I don't have anyone I can say "this part right here sucks" and have someone who understands just what that means. I don't mean someone to talk specifics or details, just someone who understands that this journey gets infinitely harder before it gets easier.

I have a trauma-informed psychologist and she's very helpful. Outside of that, nothing else really.

I wonder if this is where forums such as this is helpful where you can come and anonymously let out what you need to (within guidelines), and perhaps gain the support of other members. I found this has been helpful just to be able to connect with others and feel less lonely along the way.

We are having a Live Sunday Hangout tonight where members use a separate platform to connect with each other in real time. https://saneforums.org/t5/Special-Events/JOIN-US-Live-Sunday-Hangout-7-00-9-00pm-AEST/m-p/1510938/highlight/true#M15641

@BaggyJeans

I hate humans...

Youse are valid, do know that, no matter what they say, youse can exist as a system, youse do not need to "integrate" and become one, that's what they want, it's horrific.

do know we care, do know we wish the best, do know we support, care and love youse.

Also, for the love of anything, let your system be in control of themselves, rules are fine but you don't need them to do things for you, one are but one headmate: respect the other headmates.

@nonoandno I'm working with a trauma-informed psychologist who works with several systems. She doesn't force integration on anyone, and we work toward communication and cooperation more than anything. She's an amazing support, and I wouldn't be here without her.

Hey @BaggyJeans ,

Great to see you on the Live Sunday Hangout. It may not solve how you are feeling, but at least some connection helps?

Do you have any plans for tomorrow?

@tyme thanks for inviting me along, it was nice to chat.

I start a new job tomorrow, so the next few days before I see my psychologist again should be busy and distracting.
