Unsure what the problem is

Unsure what the problem is

This is probably just an online rant.

I don't enjoy life any more, don't enjoy any of the hobbies that I once loved or anything at all really. My life is fine on paper, no real traumatic events from memory.

Got diagnosed with clinical depression and anxiety in my early 20's and have been struggling with it my whole life but this feels a lot different. Haven't seen a psychologist since then.

Couldn't deal with work so I quit my job, can't sleep if I don't have a fair few drinks and sleeping meds. Done plenty of different jobs and even got my dream job, I was miserable at all of them.

Got a mental health plan from a GP and can't get a psychologist appointment for months as they are booked out.

No real family or friends to speak of.

This doesn't sound too bad compared to what others are going through but I'm at the end of tether and have been for a while.

There is next to no support for mental health in Adelaide apart from phone lines and internet chat messages which can't convey my thoughts properly.

Cheers

Hey there, it sounds like crippling anhedonia. It is a really rough situation to be in. I think showing up on a forum like this is a good sign. Reaching is important, knowing that life shouldn't be constant doldrums is insight. Has your gp got you on any medication? Hood luck with it all. I hope you have a moment of contentedness in your day.

Hi @SomeRando

How are ye feeling today. Sometimes having a good old rant can do ye the world of good, so rant away to your heart's content. The people on the forum are great and offer some of the best advice around. I have been in the same situation as yourself, diagnosed with anxiety and depression, but like you feel a bit dead inside myself at times.

Getting myself motivated to enjoy things again takes a fair bit of work. I literally have had to force myself out of the house at times to get fresh air, but once out, the fresh air does ye the world of good. And since I am out, I may aswell go for a wander. Surprisingly I have enjoyed my wanderings and have discovered some hidden gems around me.

So all I can say, is that you have to really rediscover yourself, and try out as many things as possible to try and peak your interest. I discovered the joys of genealogy and am now quite addicted to it, though some of the family skeletons I have come upon have proven rather interesting!!!!

Good luck in your rediscovery ........Asgard
