Something’s not right

Triggered

Triggered

I cry almost everyday and I’m easily triggered by everything including colour, scent, feel, speech and sound. I don’t know how to navigate the outside world when I can’t even feel secure in my own home without feeling overwhelmed and like bursting into tears. If I read a word or am reminded of something from my past it brings up so much anxiety for me it’s unbearable. Why am I like this? Is anyone else this sensitive?

Hi @Parzival ,

How are you doing today?

Re: Triggered

@Former-Member , thank you for your suggestions. Unfortunately writing has never been something that’s helped with my mental health in the past. I have also been to rehab a few times, and they had been weeks at a time. I think that the world’s approach and understanding of mental illness has progressed overtime and now we have resources and better ways to get more out of less time. For me, it only gets you so far until the place becomes a refuge and you are just there to be looked after and avoid the outside world. I just need to find something that works

Re: Triggered

@StanD I have started poetry as well, and I also would like to do guitar and take up classes at my local jiujitsu gym.

But my hopelessness stops me from doing things like that

Hi @tyme, today was distracting. I am returning to work tomorrow after some time off and I’m feeling very anxious

Re: Triggered

I'm sorry to hear you are feeling anxious in returning to work. Does your workplace know what's happening? Are they supportive? @Parzival I wonder if there's things they can do to ease you back in considering you haven't been in a while?

Re: Triggered

@tyme my work doesn’t know about my mental health, I was afraid of being discriminated. It’s exhausting turning up and running myself into the ground while I have to pretend I’m okay

Re: Triggered

I wonder if you can just mention to them that you are going through a rough patch at the moment @Parzival ? You don't need to tell them everything.

However, it may help them to be more compassionate and supportive, rather than shrug you off for under performing or something?

Any thoughts?

Does your workplace have EAP? Employee Assistance Program?

Re: Triggered

@tyme I can’t afford anymore time off, I

just came off nearly three months of leave and then I got sick too. I don’t want to tell them anything, I’d rather bottle it up and keep things seperate. I’m not sure if they do, but I know they have some kind of mental support service in place

Re: Triggered

That's also okay. I hope you can use these forums at the end of each day to share what you need to in an anonymous way @Parzival

You are not alone.

You deserve to be support at this time.
