D.I.D....

D.I.D....

Wanting to know if there's anyone else in this group caring for someone with D.I.D.?

We've got a family member with a very "crowded" internal world of multiple personalities. This goes along with compulsive behaviours, phobias, social anxiety, derealisation and other difficulties. The person in question sees medical and psychological practitioners regularly; it's a disorder that apparently doesn't respond to medication, and they have previously reacted badly to medications that have been trialled; I'm seeing a psychologist regularly myself to deal with the pressure and get some feedback/backup. I have a supportive husband and family, but otherwise it's hard to know how to or who to talk with about what's going on. It's an uncommon enough disorder that you have to explain an awful lot about it before a conversation can even really start, and then you run into dangerous ground regarding the privacy of the person in question.

Re: Dissociative Identity Disorder Carers?

@Smc thinking if you and trust all is so smooth as it can be for you and your family

Ditto to you @Determined.

I've managed to come down sick. Again. Not a cold this time, something feverish. Seeing a doctor later this morning.

So that means things had better go smoothly because if they don't, I won't be up to doing ahting about it.

I had to laugh at 'politely insistent' @Smc @Shaz51. We had friends who would tell their visitors they were going to bed themselves, but if they wanted to stay and party on would they please lock the door on their way out.

PS: do you think the carers side needs our own decluttering thread? 😀

Re: Dissociative Identity Disorder Carers?

LoL @Former-Member my younger bro did that to older bro once. Older had turned up on a work night and couldn't take a hint about early start and long drive with oversize load. In the end younger just said couch is there door is over there turn the lights out when you make up your mind and went to bed lol.

Re: Dissociative Identity Disorder Carers?

@Determined, @Former-Member, going to bed and leaving them to it would have been good, except the stuff I'd cleared from on and around the dining table was in boxes stacked on our bed... Everyone was sitting around the dining table, we don't have a lounge room, so I couldn't remove the boxes from our bed until they'd gone. 😛

Our house is an old one, built in the 1860s. It used to have a shopfront on it, so it's long and narrow. Add to that the fact that the standard rooms in an 1800s house were different to modern rooms. The dining room was originally the kitchen-dining-everything room of a miners' cottage (and is pretty much serving that purpose now). The "house extension" that was later built on to the cottage has a room that we think would have been the parlour. That's now Hubby's home business workspace. There's another room next to it that must have been a more public living room (parlours tended to be invitation-only) but that's currently the clutter-room. The fact that it's at the far end of the house from the dining-everything room means there's no natural "traffic flow' into that room. You need to go down a narrow hallway between the bedrooms to get to it. Long run, I'd love to have some comfy couches and our assorted musical instruments in that room. And probably our "library".
And on that topic- yes, @Former-Member, a carers' decluttering thread might be a good idea. I think half the regular participants in the LE one are carers anyway.

I do hope you pick up soon @Smc. Having a fever in a heat wave = 😬.

Re: Dissociative Identity Disorder Carers?

We're just outside the edge of the heatwave zone @Former-Member. It's still a bit on the warm side here, but not totally horrible. And for part of last night I was getting chills, which more than counteracted it.

Have come back from the doctors. Viral bug, and I'm probaby on the mend, head back to her if I get worse, rest up, have plenty to drink and painkillers as needed.
