Does this sound like an OCD symptom?

Does this sound like an OCD symptom?

Hi folks,

I think I have mentioned in previous posts that I suffer from OCD as well as anxiety. Well all these celebrity deaths of late I think have triggered me somewhat.

I keep worrying that I won't make it to 2017, there's no evidence for this at all but yesterday I caught gastroenteritis which doesn't help. I keep obsessing about this and I can't seem to fight it, I just think that I have to hold on two more days and I'll be right.

Can someone please help me to rationalise this? Does this sound like OCD? Thankyou.

gastro can have a nasty effect on our whole system, but it does not usually last long.

Hi @Dothemo

It sounds like you are already doing a great job of rationalising and fighting thoughts that it is more than it is. keep looking after yourself. I don't know if this would make it worse or better for you if you went to the GP for some reassurance/check up?

take care,

lj

Re: Does this sound like an OCD symptom?

Hi @Dothemo,

it sounds like anxiety to me... although I am no expert. I am only advising you as a fellow patient.

You might want to go to your doctor about the gastro as there are treatments available.. rehydration therapy being very important.

I know that anxiety can manifest itself as intrusive thoughts, worrying about your health constantly. My friend had this type of anxiety and it was hard to shake.... for her, anyway. She saw heaps and heaps of doctors about her physical health and they could not find anything wrong with her.

She refused to see a psychologist, however, even when she was refered to one!

If you can, maybe go back to your therapist and talk over this concern about not making it to 2017. I guess it's hard to get an appointment right now. Is there anyone else you can talk to?

Hi LisaJane and Sahara, thanks for the replies. It's obvious to me now that the OCD lied, it deals in deception but often has no trouble getting me to worry about the intrusive thoughts. When I'm vulnerable like I am now, it's harder to resist. Thankyou and happy new year.
