Re: Anyone feel like chatting? Coffee/Tea ☕💕
@Former-Member Well I've seen a psychiatrist since I was 16 for ADHD... I'm 32 now.
Basically I hid my illness (of schizophrenia) until I was 26. From 26 to 32 I've been trialed on almost all the antipsychotics and other meds there are... Turns out I'm medication resistant or some such. Having some effect on the new one... but psychiatry is still in the dark ages... they can't drill into your brain to see which med will work. So you just gotta gritt your teeth and go with the flow.
Screaming kids... unlucky.

And wow @Gilgamesh, that's amazing you hid schizophrenia for so many year's. I imagine that is an asset in one sense. I believe we just get used to our own kinda normal and good at adapting to people, places. It's like fitting a shoe for the right occasion maybe!
In an odd way I think we adapt to situations, but does it really serve us?...I think in some ways it does..It's just a way of living.
Sometimes though I wonder?
Then I honestly have no answers.
One thing is for sure of late....I can't stand shallow people.

@Former-Member "it is everyone's lot... is exemplary in that it so lived as to yell furiously that everything hurts, all of the time, and to this one becomes as accustomed as to everything else."
Pretending to be sane was a lot of fun (ever been hammered and tried to pass as sober - its like that). Some hallucinations were nightmarish but it wasn't all bad... what I lack is the need to make others believe what I'm experiencing as reality... when a schizophrenic does this it usually makes the other uncomfortable. I just played with the disorder which protected me from its harsher realities.

I've been thrown in the GAD box for now it appears, with other tendencies noted in mix. Basically a mixed bag of stuff...bug not enough to nail it...
Lol..I like the being hammered bit! 😁...ahh yep!!

@Former-Member A diagnosis is only important in that it allows your psychiatrist to medicate you. I don't put much stock in them. My psychiatrist asked me what my diagnosis was...
ADHD
GAD
Depression
An unspecified psychotic disorder
Which made him laugh

I'm interested to know what people do for work. If having a mental illness could be an advantage.
I'm a print designer... as a schizophrenic my work is always original if inconsistent.

Definitely another unspecified alien of sorts! 😁
Print design..that's a great role..I guess it allows you to work solo which I am guessing is important? I.e. self management etc
