Withdrawal from Alchool

Withdrawal from Alchool

Hey all for the past year I have been mostly doing great with my anxiety, I have stopped drinking though and now it appears my medication isn't working and my anxiety has come back very very strongly. I have made an appointment with the dr for today since it has been about a week now and it is still going on, I was just wondering if anyone else has had this when they have stopped drinking.

Ok I'm back, its entirely possible that this is the cause...so won't be drinking again for me, I don't really enjoy booze that much myself. Have to see the Dr at the end of the week before the big break to check that I am doing alright and see how I am going. It's possible other people wouldn't react the same way vs the medication or any sort of medication, each person is different.

@Former-Member. I hope just knowing that the alcohol withdrawal will be messing with your anxiety (only temporarily) - is a help.
Do you have techniques you can use to reduce your anxiety?
I like meditation or dancing to rock music - depending on how severe or not my anxiety is. Keeping busy with a project around the house. Some members here enjoy knitting or art or music - something creative. What do you enjoy that helps focus your mind on something else?

Hmm I like watching a good movie or series, going for a walk is good as well.

@Former-Member. What type of movies?
I love a good comedy - especially British conedy. Vicar of Dibley. Absolutely Fabulous. Etc. They help lift my mood.

Well being a guy I'm usally big on action movies however I find that is a dieing genera these days. I liked Westworld this year, Law and Order SVU used to be good but the writing has been very poor in some of the newer episodes.

Been feeling much better then previously and much more calmer, been going to the toilet a lot though today so I think most of the Aldcool is out of my system by now. No more drinking for me but I'm really happy about that.

@Former-Member. I used to enjoy SVU - but now I have to be in a safe head space to watch - otherwise too triggering.
I'm glad you're feeling better without the alcohol. Once it's out of your system, you start feeling the benefits.
I'm day 5 of no sleeping tablets & even though I did it safely with my doctor - today I'm very shaky & teary. Just trying to get through tge night & hoping tomorrow is better.

Oh yes, some people might find SVU triggering. I actually quite like horror movies as well but they have to be well done not just cheap gore and shock sort of ones. I also find playing good PC games to be helpful when you are nervous or reading a book.

Re: Withdrawal from Alchool

@Former-Member. U don't do horror movies. They scare me senseless. I know that's the point - but no. Although most of my friends love horror movies or stories.
Just went to take my meds and realized I missed yesterday's tablets. Bugger. No wonder I was starting to have a panic attack. It's like a double withdrawal from my Ad's as well. That will teach me.
Feel better just knowing this feeling will pass soon.
How is your night going?

Re: Withdrawal from Alchool

Alright been doing much better, went to the toilet quite a bit during the last couple of days and that is certainly slowing down- must be my system flushing the toxic booze out.

Been feeling better and better after reaching the bad feelings peak on Monday.

Certainly won't be drinking again, except for the odd bit of wine on special occasions-it is a poison after all and especially if it is going to hurt my medication.

Well done on getting through the Monday hump day @Former-Member. You did it! Keep going?
Have you made plans for how you will deal with alcohol on Christmas Day and Boxing Day - if there will be alcohol served?
Having a strategy or two in place, might help if you get tempted.
