Hey all for the past year I have been mostly doing great with my anxiety, I have stopped drinking though and now it appears my medication isn't working and my anxiety has come back very very strongly. I have made an appointment with the dr for today since it has been about a week now and it is still going on, I was just wondering if anyone else has had this when they have stopped drinking.
Haven't been in your situation but seeing your GP and reaching out here for support are two really great steps. Well done. Keep us up to date x

Yeah can't hurt to go to my GP and talk with them about it. Also want to get it done before the Christmas rush.

Re: Withdrawal from Alchool
@Former-Member. Well done on not drinking. I wonder if you gave yp alcohol under the guidance of your gp? Some people can go through a rough time when giving up. Some may need medication to help them through. I did okay when I stopped earlier this year. Although I was in the hospital at the time dealing with my SI. So I'm not sure what was withdrawal and what was MI. I'm glad you are seeing yiur gp today. Do you also have a therapist? They can help with techniques to reduce your anxiety. All the best.

Re: Withdrawal from Alchool
I've been to therapy before. No I just decided to stop it on my own as it is a depressant at the end of the day and actually causes me the shakes when I drink too much. Now that I have gone off it though it seems to of 'bitten me' and I was wondering if this happened to others although I can't name the specific medication I am on.

Re: Withdrawal from Alchool
@Former-Member. As your body withdraws from the alcohol - you may initially struggle with moods. Your brain will be trying to tell you that you need a drink - YOU DON'T. So your body and moods may struggle for a little while. But it does get better. You will find that after a few weeks, things settle right down & you will start noticing then how much easier it is to think and do things. It jyst takes a few weeks. Si I'm glad you will see your gp today. You may need a slight adjustment of your meds.

Off to my GP appointment soon, hope all goes well. In any event it has been great talking to people on here and I hope the mods don't think I'm a spammer due to the number of posts I have made around the place.

Good Luck with the GP @Former-Member
It is pretty normal for anxiety to rise a little after stopping a substance. As drinking would have masked feelings of anxiety. Persist and eat and sleep well .. and eventually it should recede .. its worth it to kick the habit ...get through the silly season the best way possible ..
