Sick, now work wants me to leave

Sick, now work wants me to leave

As most know Ive been pretty sick for a while, just over a year now Ive been off work and for several months before this I was in and out with my sisters stuff, leading up to me crashing out.

I got a call today and work has asked me to either resign or go onto a Career Break, which is essentially you stop working for 6months to a year and at the end you have the ability to reapply for a job within the business.

Given when I come back to work Im going to be on a return to work plan the likelyhood is no one would hire me with that condition and with an over 12 month sick leave the chances are going to be pretty limited.

I dont think its at all in my best interests to do either and as far as I can tell they cant force me to, I dont know what they will do if I dont do one or the other but if Im going to lose my job then Im probably better off having them do it so I can get onto centrelink quicker.

Feels like a fair kick in the guts though, Im finally getting diagnosed with the things that are wrong, getting closer to returning and now this.

Hey @ClockFace ,

I'm so sorry to hear this. I read it feels like a kick in the guts.

How long have you been working for them for?

I'm here if you want a chat about it.

Hi @ClockFace its a horrible feeling an employer deciding whether to dismiss you from work due to health related issues and I’m sorry to hear this is happening.

if things do get to a point where you are no longer employed, regardless who made this decision I suggest you think about getting letter from doctor that mentions your health and its impact on decision to no longer be employed. If you tell Centrelink you are not able to work they will want medical certificate, medical certificate that can be up to 13 weeks
