Bipolar and wanting to feel optimistic about the future

Bipolar and wanting to feel optimistic about the future

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum. I was diagnosed with Bipolar in 2022 following a manic episode with psychosis

TW: restraint

Content/trigger warning
(i was full on crazy and they had to sedate me with 6ppl holding me down)

and a depressive episode shortly after. I've been on the mend until I had another depressive episode in 2023. All in all i've been in hospital 3 times spending about 3 weeks there each time. It has been very disruptive to my life in general and work has been affected as well. I'm a healthcare professional and I have a very supportive husband but sometimes i can't help but to feel like I can't live a normal life anymore or I will live a short life if i keep having depressive episodes. My psychiatrist said that many people with Bipolar go on to live a functional and fulfilled long life and that my prognosis is considerably good because I've already established a career and got married before i fell ill.

Wanting to connect/hear about other bipolar people's stories and hopefully find some comfort and support in each other's stories. I really want to get better! I'm reasonably stable at the moment with medications but i find motivation to do things/go to the gym pretty low and I hope to change that in 2024.

thank you for reading my post and I appreciate any replies/input. This seems like a nice platform for peer support.

Hey @Stacy89 ,

I can certainly relate to what you have shared. Good on you for being proactive about your recovery. It sounds like you have made significant progress over the years.

I have to agree that many people diagnosed with bipolar go on to live fully functional lives. Well done on working towards that!

I've been in hospital many many times. Some were short stays and others were up to 6 weeks at a time. Long story short, today, I live a fully functional life. Life is so much better than what it was prior my illness. I'm still in awe at how good life can possibly be.

Connecting on these forums was one of the best things that allowed me to connect with other and hold myself accountable for things. It gave me the motivation to keep going as I knew I was not alone in my journey.
