Input On Groups & Events in 2024

Input On Groups & Events in 2024

Hi Everyone,

As we enter into a new year and start looking at all the possibilities for group discussions and events in the year ahead, we wanted to get your input too!

  • Are there any particular topics you would like to see explored through a group discussion in 2024?
  • Are there any topics that might've previously been covered you'd like to revisit? If so, is there anything in particular about the topic you wanted to explore more?

If you'd prefer your input be anonymous, you can submit your suggestions/ requests via the anonymous form here 😊 (a little down the page)

Another topic is How to deal with a loved one's lack of empathy? For those of us carers of people with mental health diagnosis that make them non empathetic or with diminished empathy, it can be extremely challenging to hold strength and at times kindness. My husband's cptsd means he built an emotional wall that means he can't always relate to the pain or distress of others. Today we talked about it at couples therapy. It was a difficult discussion.

Hi @Healandlove,

I can imagine that it would have been a difficult discussion today at couples therapy, however see that both you as a carer and a partner, as well as your husband - are both willing to work on this together to better your communication, connection and lives. I feel it's an important step towards understanding each other and hopefully for your husband to unpack that emotional wall knowing that he has support from you along the way.

I'm curious - how did you care for yourself after the session? 🙂

Warmest,
@PizzaMondo

(SANE Peer Support Worker you'll see a little more of around here! Hi!)

Re: Input On Groups & Events in 2024

@PizzaMondo , thank you for your kind words. We have been doing couple's therapy now for 23 months. My husband finally agreed to see a trauma specialised psychologist 7 months ago. I hold on to that thought that at least he has agreed to continue couple's therapy and his own. I often write in this forum that his progress is 1 step forward and 2 back. At least we are still in this journey together. And it has been good to finally have a diagnosis for him. A lot of things made sense following his diagnosis. We still hold on to each other and to keep our family together. I hope it all turns out in peace and healing in the end.

My self care is getting back to work and focusing on that. Writing in this forum has been my self care too 🥰

Here to support your journey too @Healandlove 🙂

Amazing to know that your husband has agreed to go forward and seek the support they need right now!

I encourage you to see the journey as peace and healing also, as not only living with, but working and supporting someone with complex mental health often is a 1 step forward, 2 steps back kind of dance. So I can understand that this can conjure various emotions for us too.

So glad to know you use our forums as self-care - connection with others and expressing ourselves is so crucial to our very own wellbeing!

Warmest,
PizzaMondo

@Healandlove some carers topics would be a good idea. as a carer myself we face many many challanges when it comes to looking after ourselves and those we care about

@TideisTurning @Healandlove A thought for a topic - caring for oneself whilst caring for someone who has SI, both passive and active
