Something’s not right

Am I being unreasonable

Am I being unreasonable

Ok so I don’t know if I am being unreasonable about this situation. Basically I keep seeing all these teens and young people close to my age self diagnosing off TikTok with mental illnesses most of them are autism and adhd but some of them are diagnosing themselves with things like DID and Tourette’s and I just it kind of makes me mad because I feel like a lot of them don’t actually have those issues and are just confused which is fair enough these things can be confusing but I just don’t think TikTok is the place to go for a diagnosis and I feel like these people are making it harder for other people with those issues to be understood by the general population because they are confusing people about what it is actually like. Idk if I am making any sense but this has just been really frustrating me lately.

No, of course you aren't being unreasonable. This is your opinion, and I believe it's justified. These people probably don't have any mental illnesses at all, and are just confused, but think they do coz they want to belong in a category, and not feel left out.

Unfortunately, it's WAY too easy to self diagnose mental illnesses.

I never believe someone when they claim they have something, or if they say you have something, unless it's backed up by plenty of proof from a competent shrink, not just one of these desk jockeys that tick boxes.

For example, I met this really unpleasant lady, and she reckoned I had autism because her son had it, and she thought just because of that I should listen to her, as she "saw all the signs". Needless to say, I didn't take much notice of her. No, I think she saw what she wanted to see, even though it wasn't there.

As mental illnesses are NOT a one size fits all thing, it's a real hard thing to be sure about, and younger people are going to try to self diagnose.

Social media is not doing ANYONE much good, and unfortunately, younger people are more susceptible.

@Anondepressed thanks I think I am just overthinking it all but I do have a right to be upset about it. I think it is just hard because you try and bring this issues up in some mental health circles and your are accused of "fakeclaiming" and being ablest.
