Warning : Sexual Abuse Discussion

Warning : Sexual Abuse Discussion

*please do not read if you feel vulnerable or feel like this subject is too much for u rn. Each of us perfect wherever we are in our recovery.

hello All,

This is deeply personal post for me. I wanted to share because I believe there are many other survivors, who may feel supported by me expressing, & survivors who may be further in their journey of recovery than me, & can offer support to me.

I titled it, as, a discussion, because, to me - it is most important to feel like it is ok to have a space where talking, expression, is safe, normal, accepted.

My story, or timeline, for me, happened like this.

*Majority of my life, complete denial

* Accepting, that yes, moments of sexual abuse definately occurred, - tho, it was in the past. I had no interest in "watching the movie' as I expressed to previous psychologist

* Now - I am aware. Yes, it did happen. It continued to happen as part of my storyline, because, the decisions I was making were from a place of, inability to accept.

Today, I am having 'dark thoughts '. Memories. How it impacted my decisions.

I feel sad. I feel like it's ok to be sad. I was used. Abused. Unseen. Un-human.

Unseen. I think that is how I continue to see myself. It is difficult to describe.

Yes. There is still a disconnect, a disassociation. As though, that happened to another, not me.

Sexuality with trust, love, kindness - or a fling, if that is your thing - is the most beautiful blessing. I feel silly writing, tho, it is a religious experience! Spiritual. The highest connectedness, to life, the universe. Maybe this, connectedness is not exclusive to actual physical act of sex. I am trying to express the profound beauty.

Not dirty. Not rude. Not shameful. Not ugly or embarrassing.

It annoys me, that our culture, tv, advertising..... Everything! Has manipulated our views of sexuality, to be giggled at, or their are 'guidlines' Sorry, it is Extremely difficult to express what I'm saying.

Sexual Abuse, changed me. It made me feel wrong. I believed others could take away from me. Therefore I felt like I was in bondage with devil, in sense.

A person took away the part of me that was private, sacred, unknown to me. I believed, if they had that power over me, I was nothing. I felt the deepest sense of humiliation. It was a secret. I didn't know if they knew how humiliated I was. I thought, "I am frightened" -

It is so difficult to explain - the power that a perpetrator has over their victim.

If I left - I would have to accept the horror of the fact, that I had been raped. It was, still is - too much for my psyche.

If I stayed, I could 'sweep it under the rug'.

If this is what life was - what was the point in trying to leave anyway?

Sexual Abuse, is a particular form of abuse. It has layers that entangle, confuse, imprison the victim. I was, still am, a prison to myself.

It is difficult issue to discuss. It difficult issue to listen to.

I think this might be part of problem.

Our society, all around the world, finds it very difficult to talk openly.

I think, victims, are 'undertreated'. It appears to be taboo to discuss a sexual assault, with people, other than with a counsellor, or professional. Outside of this, it is still 'kept secret '

Guilt. Shame.

"I have a story that is bad.

I have a story that is too sad, too damaging, to share with general public.

General public are not capable, intelligent, responsible, mature enough to discuss over Christmas or at get together, BBQ. These topics, are reserved to specialised team."

The people who work in this area, truly are inspiring, beautiful. I feel in awe.

Stigma.

I think it is more than that.

I'm not sure if I'm alone in my thinking - tho it appears like victims & survivors of sexual abuse, torture, violence - we are in a specialised category.

(Kind of 'the too hard basket' - that might only be my perception)

It's like, we are deemed, unable to recover, in a way. That the psyche & other professionals work on the basis, that all we are capable of is building strength upon trauma filled experiences. That we can be strong again. We can become - survivors.

Rape is literally the essence of the soul stolen.

And from that, (what has been taken) - professionals, guide us to building a new version of ourselves.

Scars that never go away.

'The Scarred'

And this is my life, I have to accept, going forward.

I am part, of "that group'

The 'Me Too' movement never sat quite right with me. Although, it was healing.

I also recall watching the Bill Cosby & Michael Jackson documentaries.

To listen to other survivors. It is, very healing for me. I am not alone. People I admire. It happened to them too. Celebrities, powerful, .... Heartbreakingly vulnerable. Taken advantage of in the cruelest way.

When, 'me Too' happened. I felt like it had an undertone of 'special group'. This could all be my confused thinking.

I think I prefer the term 'lived experience.'

I am a victim. I am a survivor.

I have lived experience of generational & life long trauma.

I am damaged. I am broken.

The me that was always there.

IMPOSSIBLE to be taken away.

That is mine. No one can take it.

I can be tricked, manipulated, hurt, heart broken in a million pieces, soul taken away.

Idk, maybe the soul is regenerative?

Thankyou @StuF & describing magnitude, has helped me. Thankyou.

I hope it helps me too. These things feel like they take time to have effect?

I mainly hope that, me, from the past - might read it & realise none of it is their fault.

Thankyou lots StuF x

Time takes time, doesn't it @StanD ?

Definitely not their/your fault

Re: Warning : Sexual Abuse Discussion

Yes, time does take time @StuF I like that.

No, definately not my fault. That is like the highest hurdle. Thankyou ❤️

The brain gets it. The memories last in the body .... thus anxiety PTSD. I look at another, & have pure compassion. It would not even occur to me they were at fault. Myself, I'm still working thru it all. Intellectually, I understand. I think it's remnants of control, mental abuse etc. Intellectual Ising is not same as knowing, feeling. It is good first step. One day, the rest will catch up. It's like our whole body is a brain - not only what we think of as 🧠. They are symbiotic ... And also in deep conflict ... Balance is a state worth seeking.

@StuF also, thankyou for having the courage to respond. I don't realise the gravity of the things I write. For most, it would simply be waayb too much. And that is cool, I feel that way too at times. That is what this site is. We gravitate to the places that speak to us. If no one at all had responded, I'm not sure how I would feel. Alternatively, perhaps many people have scanned through. It meant a great deal to them, tho they felt they didn't want to reply., Or know what to say. Who knows!? It needs to be 'normalised' to be able to live in a society, without "TW's !! If talking, expressing, was simply that. People don't need to carry shame.

And it is shameful. I don't know why that is. It is almost vicious cycle of victim blaming.

Maybe I am being extremely naive. I imagine a world where discussing all types of subjects considered, 'out of bounds' were ok, & safe. I want people to be safe. I don't want this feeling of having to hide.

We all tend to hide our new ugly secrets.

Now, in my perfect world. Facebook/Instagram bla bla would be peoole in pj's - no make up, pimples, beer belly's, talking real shit.

That, I would join & feel like I was gaining from!!

xx

Thankyou x

I agree that the body is a brain. Indeed, there is a growing thought that the gut is a second brain...

We still really understand sod all methinks

I wanted respond with Something.

Your experience is not mine, but 'normalising' discussion (never dismissing, obviously) about such things can only be good, right (but never easy, I imagine)?

Re: Warning : Sexual Abuse Discussion

Thankyou @StuF

I don't know how to respond.

You have been gentle & sensitive to me.

You have validated my insights, & given me strength to continue.

It wasn't an easy post. Today has been a bag of emotions.b Angry, sadness, numb, hyper alert, anxiety & cuddles & love with my cats. Albeit brief.

Normal I sing 🙂 A difficult path. I think one worth pursuing.

Never diminishing, - creating different energy, different place, where hurts are not places of blame, it is place to go & experience hurt, as accepted & normal reaction. Being hurt is not the downer at the party. Change our programming. Hurt is the same ok, as happiness, joy, love, friendship, laughter. Sad, hurt. Recognised as healing emotions.

Your comment re: gut as 2nd brain. Yes, I believe serotonin is made there.

I am now thinking, it gives different aspect, to 'we are what we eat'. I always thought about from different perspective.

I am sleepy after big feelings day.

Thankyou for giving me your sensitivity. x

Re: Warning : Sexual Abuse Discussion

Dear @NatureLover

Thankyou🙂

I began taking about suspected childhood abuse in January with a 3 month stint with a free psychologist. I spoke about it very matter of fact. Memories that were dreams, it didn't make sense (as a real life memory) Jumbled.

He was the first person to say Sorry, this happened to you.

You are the second.

Thankyou.

I never understood why we say sorry. (When a death occurs - I learnt that later in life, & copied)

Your sorry, to me, it is the kindest word I could read rn.

Sorry, says - I have compassion for your hurt. You didn't deserve this. This was wrong.

Childhood flashbacks have only started this month. My body & brain & soul are strong enough now.

Previous to this year. And during most of this year, I could not fathom, that this was true.

I am seeing why I continued to make the life choices I did. I had separated everything into different compartments - there was no awareness.

The flashbacks I have had - I was perhaps 5-8 years old.

I know there is so much more.

I have a new psychologist now thru NDIS.

Writing this - I am starting to have an idea, that I really need, far more intensive support than what I am currently allocated.

If I am to work thru this - I need more than 1 hour per week, via Telehealth. My psychologist is beautiful. I didn't get to see her over holidays. I won't be seeing her until Jan 10.

I'm going to speak with my support coordinator & let them know what is going on for me.

My psychologist is 'preliminary' I don't know correct term.

I think I might need continuous intensive support for next few months.

I am sorry to everyone this has happened to.

It was not your fault

You didn't deserve this

I am so sorry, this happened to you

Thankyou @NatureLover

❤️ Thankyou for being brave. Thankyou for seeing me. Thankyou for acknowledging me.

And thankyou to anyone else who happens to read this, & wants to reply, tho doesn't know how.
