Magic Show

Magic Show

So I'm going to therapy and I'm struggling to build trust and rapour with the therapist, not because of her just because I do and we are getting to the crunch time of is this actually going to be helpful for me.

I talk about therapy as a participatory magic show except I can see what is going on behind the curtain and it's distracting and makes it hard to have trust in the therapist and for the magic to have the effect.

I once again ask a therapist to pull back the curtain and be transparent and they say "What curtain?"

Where to from here?

I sometimes feel that therapists are like shoes…you need to get the right fit. 😣 I’m really sorry to hear about your situation. Perhaps they are no good with metaphors?

Hey @ClareJ @Gillie1 , good to see you both.

I agree with what you have said @ClareJ about getting right fit.

@Gillie1 - can you think of what is and isn't working for you in the relationship? I wonder if they understand your needs?

Re: Magic Show

I don't think it is a bad fit as much as building mutual trust. She understood the metaphor and her response was more complete but did not validate my experiences so in essence what curtain?

My intuition tells me to not give up on her. I just struggle with how to go forward with the elephant in the room and sticking it's trunk out of the curtain.

@Gillie1 I really like this thread and your last post was wonderful insight for me.

When we are in very needy place it is hard to see the humour, but I think it is hilarious. I do not believe therapists are always as self aware as they think. They can see us, but maybe we can also see them. Hope that therapeutic alliance works out, and you can laugh at the image one day.

Just saying hello....
