The Self and OK

The Self and OK

Hi lovely people

It is an interesting phenomena when when struggling with MH issues - to undertstand the essence of self - who am I? I still have very little concept of the reality of me and yet I now question does it actually really matter. I know the following:

I am kind and compassionate and distinctly emapthetic

I adore, love and care for my rescue cats (6 can be tricky)

I have along term parter/husband of 26 years - and I continue to care as does he

I am dedicated to my work and my professional development - I am a qualified MH practioner and yet -

The self doubts are an ongoing battle

I do know this - regardless of how frequently I have to disengage or simply cry from the onslaught. I am a good person, I have qualities, values and strengths that matter.

Please always be kind to you - I would love to hear as will the entire forum - how you as a self compassionate person achieve self care.

Lotsa luv Bast

Re: The Self and OK

After reading everyones threads to this wonderful post, I sit here questioning myself. I know i am kind, compassionate, caring, lovable, intelligent, have empathy etc. But I struggle too with seeing these things about myself.

Is it because for so many years it didn't matter to other and being told how I should be feeling. I guess so.

I am trying to see who i am

I am trying to take care of one self

The round about of constant giving is a hard one to get off

The road of giving to one self is short but trying to extend it.

Dear Heart,

It is wonderful that you are able to see and acknowledge all the positive qualities in yourself, that is such a big step. Do you keep a journal? Maybe you could write down all the good things about yourself so that you can remind yourself when things are not going so well. You are the only Self there is in the universe, and it is important that you treat yourself kindly and give yourself the same respect you give to others. Writing things down is a really positive affirmation, and will help you when self doubt creeps in.

It is important to be able to give, but it is also important to be able to receive. To receive the kindness and support of others, to receive other people's positive comments, to receive what others can do for you. Constant giving without receiving is very draining and in the long term is not a valid way to live. I know, I struggle with this myself - always giving but not feeling worthy of receiving. You are a valid, valuable human being so do try to let a bit of receiving into your ife as well. Please think of this post as a kind of a gift to you which you can acknowledge and add to the things you feel good about. Best wishes,

Ellu

Hi all lovely people - I am so appreciative and enlightened to review your posts. The time frame of the horror that occurred is again the wondrous 'Karma'.

I now continuously endeavour to 'rescue' myself as I have done for my furbabies. I am holding on strongly to the principle that I will understand me one day. I believe that the experience of multiple traumas so adversely impacts on your self - denigrates who you are and utterly destroys the potential for personal growth.

For me, the fight will continue. I now have my own belief needs on my fridge and bathroom mirror. They state "I am a worthwhile and capable person." It is at times extremely difficult to genuinely believe these words, however at other times: my mantra helps.

I have survived the abuse and discrimination that has been so blatantly destructive from my previous workplace. The trauma remains and yet I will persist in allowing myself to be the person I am beyond this.

It has taken a huge toll and literally 18 months of my life. I broke again 3 months ago and could not keep on going.

I have now fully ascribed to a personal campaign - titled "I am not a doormat" I am trying for assertiveness, self believe and to overcome all the negative and self destructive beliefs that constantly beleaguered my thoughts. I am afterall who I am.

I have now almost finally escaped from "Alcatraz" the workplace horror. I have a resignation package - signed and official. All that is left is to go and face the ultimate nemesis - collect my personal belongs and hand in the crap phone and swipe card. This is scheduled for 16/4/2018 and I am so afraid.

However, I will do this. I have taken back my power, it is the self.
