Something’s not right

I’ve been feeling super anxious and sad lately

I’ve been feeling super anxious and sad lately

Probably 2 weeks ago my life changed and not sure what triggered that, I guess there are a lot of things happening at the same time right now, let’s try to gathering them all here:

1. I haven’t seen my mom or my family since I moved to Australia in 2018.

2. Mom meant to come here last week but my aunty got diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and she May Day in the next few hours or days the Dr said. So we canceled tickets and everything when we knew what was happening to my aunty (almost 2 months ago she was diagnosed)

3. My partner’s grandad passed away from cancer 1 weeks ago.

4. I’m moving in with my partner in less than 2 months and I think that also gives me anxiety but also I’ve been wanting this for the last 7 months.

5. I’m financially unstable as I’m paying lawyers and visa fees and I literally don’t have money to contribute to the expenses in an equal way.

6. I had a mental breakdown 2 weeks ago and I’m with antidepressants now, some days are better than others and some days I’m scared for the way I’m feeling, sometimes very hopeless.

I moved to Queensland 7 months ago, from Sydney where I spent the last 5 years and all my support is there, so make sense I feel a bit lonely I guess.

Just I want to know, have the certainty that this shall pass and I will be fine.

Hi @EstebanGC,

Sounds like a lot of stressful things have been happening lately. I'm sorry to hear about your aunt, that's really tough and sounds really hard.

Have you thought about doing regular phone or video calls with your family to catch up with them in the mean time while you can't see them? I know that it's not the same as visiting in person but it might make you feel a little less lonely.

How to help your partner through grief might be a good article to look through to help your partner if you are struggling.

Speak to your partner about how you feel like you can't contribute. Hopefully you can have a productive discussion, maybe you should more chores and do more shares of the cooking to make up for the fact you can't financially contribute.

Antidepressants can take a while to "fully kick in" give yourself some leeway here. You are going through a very stressful time and that would definingly affect your mental health.

Things will get better and while it's tough right now it wont always be this way.
