@TideisTurning It is the first Christmas back in Perth since I was discarded by the ex-narc.

I’m feeling waves of guilt, shame and failure. Because the relationship failed because I didn’t know any better.

My children’s stepfather, my grandchildren’s grandfather is a narcissist. After 13 years of being around my family he has no problem discarding them.

It was always going to end on matter what did.

I just feel like I failed my family.

Maybe coming up with something that you can enjoy yourself? @batty30

This could include watching a holiday movie, cooking a meal, going and looking at lights or anything else related to the holiday season that you might celebrate or want to participate in. Maybe making your own traditions that you can uphold! 🙂

@batty30 something I have found to be true is we can only control what is in our sphere of control so make your own individual plan and if you feel brave make it known and then others may or may not decide to join in with you

This is one of the hardest things I face. Having to plaster that fake smile on my face and pretend that everything is ok, when inside it feels like I am screaming out.

I use short breaks, my anxiety ring, prn, distraction, and big deep breaths!

I feel a bit odd that I'm sort of having the opposite problem this year. My family just quite literally in the mood this year, which I totally support. But on the other hand, I feel a bit surrounded my misery and gloom.

@Glisten I know this shame and guilt well. Through therapy I have realized my sister's rejection of me has it's origins before my husband's breakdown but I can't help but feel guilty that I couldn't keep the extended family together. I'm hoping EMDR will help with this.
