Seeking advice

Seeking advice

Hi, I have been diagnosed with Bi Polar in the past. I have had a terrible experience in the mental health system and am now a bit scared of doctors. I didn’t know where to go to get scripts because I didn’t want to see a doctor. I tapered down on my meds so I could go off them and I think that may have triggered off a manic episode. I’m finding it really difficult to know who to trust and after three horrible psych ward visits I am not prepared to go back. I didn’t intentionally go off my meds to cause trouble I just didn’t want to talk to doctors anymore and I thought I would be able to control myself coming off and I could manage things on my own. The mania and paranoia is starting to set in. Im not prepared to talk to CAT. Does anyone have any advice on any services I can reach out too that may be sympathetic to my fear of doctors and not make me feel terrible.

Re: Seeking advice

What state are you in @Chloe22 do you have a service called safe haven where you are? It’s a drop in service, an alternative to going to the emergency department ran by peer workers. I’ve been a couple of times and have always found them to be really understanding and empathetic.

Thank you for your response. I just had a look but I think I need a referral in Vic? Do you happen to know of a support line that has a chat option? Not lifeline. My kids are home so I can’t talk on the phone but some sort of text service would be helpful.

Hi @Chloe22

Welcome to the Forums and so lovely to have you here!

There are some helplines with a chat option so have a look at Beyond Blue and Lifeline.

So great that you are chatting with other members already!

Hope that helps!

Take care

Re: Seeking advice

@Chloe22 You don’t need a referral here for safe haven, you can just rock up. But I’m in nsw.
there is also the suicide call back service. They have a chat option and I prefer them over lifeline. And you don’t necessarily have to be suicidal, they will chat all things mental health. Just might have to wait for a bit

Hi @Chloe22 , I've seen on Facebook that there's a service where you can order scripts online or remotely. I'm sorry, I can't remember what it's called, but you could google it?

Also, I was thinking, if you had a psychologist or counsellor you could work through your fear of doctors...it sounds very difficult. But maybe you consider a psychologist another type of doctor...
