Re: Connecting with the Community

I’m with @Zoe7 on the concept of ‘following’ members. I don’t like the idea of stalker behaviour. I, myself, wouldn’t follow a member as that could take me to places that are triggering for me. I have deliberately unfollowed threads do to the content of that particular member.

I also don’t like the idea that someone is following me. It would limit what I’m comfortable is saying. I’d feel like someone is watching over my shoulder.

Also would you be able to see who is following you and would you be able to remove them?

It is possible to see what others have commented on if you feel the need. That way if you do click on it and takes you to places you don’t want to go that is up to you. If you are triggered then that is basically your own undoing. (Sorry don’t know how to say it better)

Re: Connecting with the Community

Hi Co-Designers

In the Lived Experience Advisory Committee meeting this evening there was a discussion about groups and also about support for families and carers.

My question to you all for your consideration:

In the Guided Service our zoom discussion groups are having some success engaging people.

They are facilitated by a senior peer worker and have a theme based on the CHIME model (connection, hope, identity, meaning, empowerment) so participants in a group centred on Hope might participate in a reflection exercise and talk about what gives them hope, how to find hope in moments of hopelessness… that sort of thing.

If we trialled some Zoom groups, and could find a way for forum members to join and still protect anonymity - chief issue would be ensuring people didn’t log in with a zoom profile that automatically displays their real name, and the format was a facilitated support discussion, perhaps the same group of people over a period of time in a closed hub like this where those participants could also chat in threads….

Would anyone want to give it a go?

Who might this be useful for?

considerations for us include people who might be lonely, not have met anyone else who has a similar experience to them/similar age group/gender etc.

Thanks.

Re: Connecting with the Community

I would give this a go @RachSANECEO.

I like the idea of similar age groups as members may be able to relate to each other a little better.

I think it would also help with the isolation that we place on ourselves as we struggle in the offline world to connect to others due to our own MH needs.

Re: Connecting with the Community

…to deal with the anonymity thing in the least complicated way possible would be annoying if, say to participate we asked you to pre-test your log in and confirm that your profile wasn’t displaying your name ? If we had instructions and pictures etc ?

Re: Connecting with the Community

That would be a good way to go @RachSANECEO. I don’t know if maybe before the host let someone join that they would be able to check to ensure that they name wasn’t published ? I would need detailed instructions… I’m pretty computer illiterate! 😂.

Re: Connecting with the Community

Actually it turns out it’s a setting we can just turn off so no names display. Turns out it’s very simple. That solves that issue then!

Next question:

How would we decide what sort of group to trial first? Anyone welcome?

Or survey members to ask what they’d like in terms of putting people together with a group of peers with similar experiences/age ranges etc

Re: Connecting with the Community

That sounds like a nice idea @RachSANECEO

I'd be interested.
