Come and Join Me For Some Reminiscing

Come and Join Me For Some Reminiscing

Hiiiieeee forum fam!

So back a few weeks ago on October 1st, it was International Day for Older Persons. It made me think about my days working at the Older Persons Mental Health Service. I loved the people there and miss them a lot.

They were beautiful souls who often just needed someone to listen to them and hear them. One of the greatest joys was listening to them reminisce about their days as more active members of the community. They would tell me that it might bore me but I assured them that was not the case.

My favourite was an 85 year old man who loved to tell me about when he worked in a printing press and that he was paid 6 pounds a week.

So I thought it might be fun to start a reminiscing thread. You can reminisce on whatever you like! Like a safe space to say 'ah the good old days' and no one will say 'move on'! 😄

I'll start!

I was telling my daughter the other day about when my parents bought their first house. I was about 4 and my baby brother was just a few months old. Our lease was up on our little seaside flat and my parents decided it was time to move into our own house. I still remember looking at the house they bought. There were two older folks living there and they told my mum and dad the house was a bit haunted. And I overheard!

I'll never forget when we moved in and being spooked on windy nights as the branches on the trees outside would brush up against my window. I'd lay in bed and call out to my Dad and say, 'I think there's someone outside, like a ghost'.....And so my anxiety was born lol.

Also, I still remember they paid, $25,000 for that little house. They renovated it to look amazing over the years and are still there today and the house is probably worth about 2 million 😩 🤣

Please tag anyone I've forgotten about who might like to join

My pop was an amazing beautiful kind hearted man and my nan was the same. @hanami. They were always willing to help anyone.

He was an AA leader from about 1969ish and help many people throughout his time. There was always people coming and going from their house at all times of the day and night. Him and nan never turned their back on anyone. If anyone turned up pop or nan took them out to the kitchen and all of us knew not to go in there.

Hey @MissMuffet

Of course you can join if you're a millennial! My daughter is that generation and I reckon she'd say the same re technology. She used to come home from school and watch shows like Round the Twist. Then my boys (gen z) and youngest daughter (gen Z), came home and just went on internet/phones/netflix. So much changed in a really short amount of time!
