Cellulitis Update

Cellulitis Update

Im on my 6th Baxter bottle of 24 hr IV antibiotics, hopefully just one more bottle to go. They have extended it twice so far but Im hopeful they wont extend it again. The last time they extended it is because I developed an abcess where they were treating me for my current round of cellulitis.

Kinda gross but it burst on its own last night, there is still a pool of crap deep inside my thigh so they are going ahead with the ultrasound at this stage.

I spent the first 5 days of the IV swelling heaps, like 3-5kg movements in a day. I was so uncomfortable, in so much pain. Today, it hasnt happened but, I woke up early in the morning really unwell, the worst part has been the feeling in my head, mainly when walking but sometimes when sitting. Its this combination of the feeling of going around on a roller coaster, where your stomach drops, but instead its your mind that drops. At the same time my head tingles, I get a bit light headed and dizzy.

I was on the phone to the nurses from around 5:30am eventually, the doctor came on and it was determined that given the amount of time and the strength of the antibiotic Im on, Im having a reaction to it. They want me to stay on it for the duration but said I can come off it if things get to hard to deal with. Im staying on it as long as I can. I dont want to go through having cellulitis again, I want this to actually be over.

@Blackbird11

Ive been discharged from hospital, its a little weird being discharged and being home already. They decided that the antibiotics were only treating the symptoms and not the root cause and given the length of time I had been on antibiotics, either oral or IV, that they are more detrimental than benefitial now.

I was also have allergic reactions to the antibiotics that they were changing me to at the end, there were a couple they tried and I had reactions to them so the last few days hasnt been at all enjoyable.

They recon there is an underlying cause to whats going on and that keeping going with antibiotics wont help. So they are sending a letter to my GP with instructions as to getting me in to a dermatologist and a infectious disease team as an urgent thing, so Id see them within days or they would try and get me into a program via the hospitalisation prevention service.

I keep having issues bloating, the antibiotics seem to have messed up my guts. Im on probiotics but Im blowing up like crazy at times which at my size is amazing there is the ability for my stomach to stretch any further.
