I am feeling helpless...

I am feeling helpless...

Hi, I am new here and just wanted an outlet to release my worries and frustrations. I have feeling helpless the past few weeks now and I know it is getting worse because I noticed how I isolate myself from friends and family from time to time, I forget things and extremely procrastinate all the time, I forget to take care of myself, and doing simple tasks takes a lot of work from me. I just wanted to share my own feelings and assure myself that I am not alone in all of these things happening to me.

Hi @notsoladybird That sounds really hard. You are certainly not alone. I, too, have been in a similar position before and it is really hard to not only get through each day but sometimes even know what day it is. I used to be really hard on myself and think I was failing at just being but over time (and with support) I was able to let some of those things goes as just a bad day.

Do you have supports in place to help you through this?

Hi @notsoladybird and welcome to the sane forums.

I can relate to so much you have said. It certainly can be hard to deal with things and just to get through daily life.

I hope you find the forums a supportive place and a place where you can vent,

Take care

Thank you, @Zoe7 for your message, this means a lot to me. I have my psychologist, but have not contacted her for months now. I just feel like handling things on my own and not deal with other people. I have called in sick for 3 days at work just because I am not in my best state to work. It feels overwhelming right now.

Hi there @notsoladybird ,

You will certainly realise you are not alone in how you are feeling. For some, even getting up out of bed is a lot of work.

Yet, a good way to think about it is that every thing you manage to do, celebrate it as an achievement. It's easy to punish ourselves for the things we haven't done, yet it's a different mindset to focus on what we HAVE done and achieved.

What is something you have achieved today? It doesn't have to be big.

Re: I am feeling helpless...

One of the bravest things we can do for ourselves is to ask for support. You have done this already here @notsoladybird by reaching out to the forums, so you already have one win for today. It seems that you need that support now from your psych also - everyone in our corner that can help is a bonus. As for work - it also takes courage to have that time off. It does not matter whether work is something we enjoy or hate but either way, not being up to it ultimately does not help anyway, especially ourselves. Take the time you need and do what you need to do for your own health. Do you have a MHCP with your GP? Might be time to check in with your GP for some added support also and more time off if you need it.

Hey @notsoladybird

Good on you for reaching out, welcome to the forums 🙂

How are you feeling today? You're certainly not alone in those feelings you described but they're not pleasant and there is help available. You mention that you have been feeling this way for a few weeks, is there someone you have seen for some extra help? Maybe a GP (I see you have previously seen a psychologist). It might be time to see someone again. Well done though on recognising that you're not quite yourself - one of the traps we can fall into is pretending nothing is wrong. Or sometimes we convince ourselves "it's not that bad". Better to see now that you're struggling than wait until you hit rock bottom. If seeing a professional is too tricky right now, there are some online programs that might give you the boost you need, This Way Up is a free one you might like to check out.

Check in with yourself and feel free to come here to ask questions or let it all out. Don't suffer in silence, we're here for you!
