Simple pleasures

Simple pleasures

Maybe we could start a thread for those “simple pleasures” that awaken our senses, bring us some joy/relief/comfort. Might be a silly idea. Maybe already a discussion like this. There was a discussion about what makes us smile awhile back. However I can see how it may be perceived as unhelpful for many. Just my gibberish again.

Utter silence… save for the sound of your thumping heart….

Delicately tracing your fingers around a pool of water, to observe the series of ripples it creates…

Eggnog
To be alive in this very moment, stepping outside hearing the wind howl through the trees, the suns rays burning my upturned nose, the promise today of perhaps a late spring storm?

Was that a long black or ristretto???? Sorry, @Melbcoffeesnob, just had to throw that in 😝 Thank you for your warm welcome and kind words. When so many of those out there are in deep pain and are suffering, there is so much to be said for savouring those simple moments and daily pleasures…I know, easier said than done, right? Believe me, I have been there…

Hello @Former-Member

Thank you for your reply, it's good to speak to you. You sound like you have a lot of wisdom and insight. Well done on being so insightful. Your insights and knowledge are invaluable amongst the Sane Forums. I look forward to hearing more about your story over time.

The name MelbCoffeeSnob resonates with me because I find it therapeutic to grab myself a cuppa, put on my active listening thinking hat and to help support others through difficult times.

oh, and I'm more of a traditionalist, so cappuccino for me :-P.

Hope your day is going well,

Much love from @Melbcoffeesnob

I’ll have to confess, my coffee this morning was made from good ‘ole Aldi freeze dried coffee beans. I’m definitely no coffee snob. I’m definitely not insightful, and definitely lacking in wisdom.

You are stronger and more resilient than you may give yourself credit for @Former-Member

Sometimes we can be our own toughest critic, and sometimes, we can be too hard on ourselves. It's perfectly normal to set high standards and have big goals but remember that it's also crucial to show yourself some compassion.

Along with the theme of "life's simple pleasures", something that really resonates with me is recognizing our own self talk each day as this can make a huge impact on my own general wellbeing and happiness each day. I used to be very hard on myself when things didn't go right. Realizing at the end of the day that I only have control over how my own feelings and thoughts gives me comfort. It's one of life's "ah ha" moments that I stumbled upon recently and found it to be life changing.

There are countless helpful videos on YouTube and social media about self-talk with some of my favorites being Louise Hay and Wayne Dyer. If this resonates with you feel free to have a look online and see if it resonates with you.

Kudos to you @Former-Member

From,

I’m sorry for the late reply. I want to thank you for your kind words today, @Melbcoffeesnob. I guess you could say I myself had one of those

“a ha” moments. I think I read the Louise hay book about 10 years ago, how far I have come 😞Thank you again .

Simple pleasure, having my morning coffee while watching the dog make sounds in her sleep whilst she sleeps in the sunlight shining through the window.

Re: Simple pleasures

Strangest thing…. Funnily enough I spoke to my psych today and she told me I’m the strongest she’s seen me in a long time. So running along with that….I have 3 simple things that brought me great comfort over the day:

1 hearing my teen son mumble “love you”
2counting the number of strawflower heads in bloom
3 reading and re-reading EECummings “ I Thank you God for most this amazing”…
and a choc marshmallow Santa
