Can't sleep sinking into darkness.

Can't sleep sinking into darkness.

Hello, first time here.

Just wanted to share my story so that it's out there.

I moved overseas with my wife and daughter for 4 years. Everything was going well until earlier this year.

Put all our savings into a house plus got a big loan under my wife's name.

Turns out the builder didn't do things properly and in the end we ended up with a worthless house that can't be sold.

I had a mental breakdown and ended up coming back to Australia to get help in an English speaking country. My wife stayed behind to sort out the mess with the house.

Since I've been back I've tried to get help, but making appointments and finding help isn't as quick as I thought.

So now, every night I have to put my child to sleep while she cries for her mum and its sending me down some dark thoughts.

Never been in a position like this before. I can't smile or feel happy anymore. And I feel like I've let my wife down by running away.

People say it will take time but I feel like every day is a struggle that never ends.

Hi @Tdtdtd and welcome to the forums. I'm so sorry to hear about what's been going on. It's no wonder you're mental health has been affected - it's a lot for one to go through just moving OS but to have all that happen. It really sucks. Do you have a healthcare professional you can talk to about what's happening? Even a GP? Getting support is so important. We don't need to suffer alone. Please keep reaching out as we really want to support you. I know others will reach out to and say hello.

Warmest wishes

Thankyou for replying.

I've gone to a GP but he referred me to someone who only does over the phone sessions and also very limited hours. I can't even got a new referral for someone different. The GP said to talk it out with the reffered psychologist.

It's just all so overwhelming right now.

And again thankyou for your words.

@Tdtdtd I’m sorry to hear you haven’t had much help. Sounds like your gp was a bit dismissive to be honest. They really should have offered you a new referral of you weren’t happy with the one they gave you. I hope you find some comfort in reaching out here on the forums.

Hello @Tdtdtd

We're so glad you've reached out here on the forums.

It can be so frustrating when you are feeling helpless and to get an appointment with a professional takes time.

I know it doesn't feel like it right now, but you won't feel this way forever. Moving is super stressful even if it's in the same suburb, so I can imagine how difficult it is for you right now. It also must be really hard being apart from your wife, especially with your daughter missing her too.

It's good you've made contact with your GP, and that you'll be seeing another psychologist. Hang in there.

In the meantime if things get really tough and you desperately need someone to talk to, you can always connect with a lifeline crisis supporter on 13 11 14. They are open 24 hours and can help you when you have those dark thoughts until you can see your psychologist.
