Feeling fed up

Feeling fed up

I’m doing okay, I’m not depressed as such, I’m just feeling a bit fed up. Society is annoying. Society has programmed us to remain silent because all neg emotions are considered wrong. Keeping busy keeps you going, but it doesn’t heal, full stop. These social norms make no sense whatsoever. Why should I keep quiet, like we are all supposed to? Why should I feel ashamed about my history of mental illness and trauma? Why should I feel bad about being wired differently?

Other thing that I’ve been reflecting on is that I have a tendency of feeling over-responsible for making everyone feel comfortable. I always feel at fault if I make someone uncomfortable with my emotions, and it automatically becomes my fault they are anxious, hence why I keep a lot of things from people. My parents struggled to cope with my emotions when I was growing up, I don’t want to trigger an avalanche of emotions, or be heightened to the point of feeling as though trusting anyone outside the family is a no brainer. My mum was not a fan of me talking about SI last year during my crisis point or having so many people try to help me get my life on track. I became so paranoid, because she often talks about how people are only out to look after themselves, as a result I have shut down even further. She was afraid I would be put on a treatment order

Re: Feeling fed up

Vert in sync with you @creative_writer . Yesterday I was feeling rotten till I realized the main reason I was feeling rotten was me so consistently trying to put a positive spin on things. Too much of that was robbing me of well earned annoyance, anger and other very useful and valid emotions.

And, that's a really good quote. Jung is such a yoga-head. I love it.

@wellwellwellnez, I think learning to sit with discomfort is hard. I don’t think it naturally comes to us. I feel like sometimes other people don’t know what to say or know how to hold other people’s pain. I know we have become better at talking about emotional pain, but we have a long way to go

Re: Feeling fed up

I’m so scared of causing offence that I read and re-read my posts over and over again. What did I write? Have I offended that individual? Will I get a response, perhaps maybe even a thumbs up? But I feel for you. I wasn’t validated growing up, was told to put up with it all, to accept not to whinge. Was told as my sister became mentally unwell that I wasn’t the one suffering, to just deal with it. And so I did, as best I could at that age.

Hey @Former-Member thank you for your post and thoughts here on the Forums! I read my posts over and over sometimes so I have them correct and I get worried about missing something haha. I have had those feelings about saying the right thing and offending people sometimes too.

I hope you feel validated here on the Forums as we all have MH issues and life has been challenging in different ways.

It's great to have you as part of the community!

Take care

Re: Feeling fed up

@Former-Member and @RiverSeal, I do find myself checking my posts, texts and emails before sending them across. I’ve sort of always been a pathological people pleaser in a way, I am naturally mindful of not offending people. It’s something that I need to work on.

@Former-Member, it’s hard not feeling validated, but we all have valid emotions and experiences. When I first developed depressive symptoms, my parents thought I would grow out of it. I have mental illness in my family which certainty did add to the complexity, I’ve found anxious parents often have anxious children. The anxiety can get transferred. Likewise, I wouldn’t be surprised if your sister’s mental health affected yours. I hope you find the forums to be a safe place 💖

Hello @creative_writer, @RiverSeal, ha! So I’m not the only one re checking! I too want to please, and am so frightened I will offend! Thank you for your thoughts, the paranoia stems from my illness, I think.
