Losing my independence

Losing my independence

How the hell am I supposed to deal with the fact I need someone to dress and undress me, shower me, cook for me, wait on me etc.

I severely dislocated my shoulder several times over the weekend and now my physio has outlined I must keep my arm immobile and get everyone to do all my self care.

I've completely lost my indepence.

Good thing I already have carers...BUT there's a hug but...all are male and I'm biologically female. Also so much sexual trauma in my past. I don't know how I'm supposed to have them shower or dress me and keep my privacy and dignity.

I'm really really scared.

It would be nice to meet up and have a shandy & some footy franks sometime, @The-red-centaur . Does SANE organise such things?

Hey @justanotherguy ,

At this stage, SANE forums are anonymous which means any identifying information cannot be shared.

You can refer to our ANONYMITY Guidelines here.

@The-red-centaur , I'm sorry you have dislocated your shoulder. I hear how difficult it is for you right now. I hope there's someone you can reach out to to support you emotionally as I recognise it is not easy to lose your independence overnight.

Ohhh @The-red-centaur I did not realise you could not get same sex carers for personal stuff.

Sending positive vibes ... but digging deep myself atm. Watching The Change on SBS.

Re: Losing my independence

@tyme I spoke to my case coordinator about it. It helped a little.

@Appleblossom hope you're OK.

I'm transmasc/non-binary, they put me in a male house. I tried to speak to my company about the personal care but I never heard back. I'll follow it up this morning.

I'm anxious about the upcoming shower t hi is morning. I'm overthinking it. I don't even know which carer is on.

I also haven't slept again. I've barely slept since Wednesday. I finally got some pain relief yesterday, but it doesn't help too much.

I'm not looking for to the next two months of this.

Re: Losing my independence

My favourite carer got fired after not doing an incident report about a fall.

He was the only one I felt comfortable in helping with person care.

On a side note. I keep having falls. The company is getting anxious. I dislocated my shoulder again. And it's really hard to manage everything. My Dr says I'm having an acute pain reaction, hence the dizziness and the falls. Which makes it all hurt more lol.

Ah fml
