Looking for a hospital

Looking for a hospital

Hi,

I live in regional nsw, and im desperate for an inpatient hospital admission due to self harm urges and suixidal ideation, plus I need a meds review. Normally I gonto private hospitals because I get treated better but I have physical disability now which affects mobility and private wont take me. So im after a good public hospital facility.

i have had some very traumatic experiences in the public system so im really after some good recommendations and reviews. Thank you.
I know I will have to travel as there is nothing close in my area. My brother lives in [edited by moderator] but am willing yo go where there is a good hospital

Re: Looking for a hospital

Hi there @Bekky ,

Thank you for posting.

I'm sorry to hear about your experiences. I hear how much you are wanting and looking for support yet you have not been able to get the support you need.

My only thought is to first go to the emergency department and then from there, see if you can get an admission into a public hospital. I know you mentioned you haven't had the best experience, but would that be a one off?

Speaking from experience, I've had tremendous help in the public system. My entire treatment and therapy was done in the public system. Only now have I had to start paying for a private psychologist - which I've paid for ONCE in 20 years.

Another thing to note is that you physical disability should not mean you are denied from MH support. This breaches the Disability Discrimination Act. If anything, hospitals need to find a way around this such as providing one-on-one support in an inpatient unit. I'm saying this because I had this support - it was called a 'special'.

Hope this makes sense.

Please don't give up on asking. I just think that the public system has more wriggle room than the private sector.
